Show The Scotch Bottle "White Knight" Smears Utes By RON SCOTT The Downtown Boys have really been on our backs here at the University of Utah during the past few weeks. Coach Giddings has taken the brunt of the sarcasm and "almost insults" dished out by Hack Miller of the Deseret News, and John Mooney of the Tribune. Some of the criticism has been justified but by and large the majority of the criticism has been filler for "dying" columns. It seems that Mr. Miller had a dream, or took a trip, probably the result of mixing asprin with Post-um, Post-um, anyway the results were as wild and fuzzy as a dream stimulated by aphrodesiacs. He saw visions of Mike Giddings lecturing at a Ute Booster meeting, "Yes they played exactly like I coached them . . . so don't blame the loss on them . . . it's all my fault." Other little pieces of good satire went on to pick Giddings apart piece by piece. Two days later the "Tavern Troops" story broke in the Chronicle Miller couldn't resist and jumped on a campaign to make it look bad for Giddings and company. Not only did he use his much read column, but he managed to slip a few editorial comments into the news stories. "The eight Utes, according to coach Giddings, will not be used until they are needed. This could be the games' second play." I don't know how newsprint tastes, but I'm sure Hack could give me a good description after Saturday's fine game. Indian Invasion John Mooney thought the Indian invasion of the "Crows Nest" was hot enough to merit a banner headline on the front page of Fridays paper two days after it was carried by the Daily Utah Chronicle. Chron-icle. Not. onlv did he nlav it lpnH in tho Qn-rc u.imn Issues have been well worn out by the "White Knight of the RIGHT." Indeed Mr. Miller is a powerful man, But I wonder if he hasn't "begun to exercise unrighteous un-righteous dominion on the children of men" as the old proverb says. If so he should be aware that the scripture also says in essence that when unrighteous unright-eous dominion is excercised that the power withdraws itself, and wo be unto the disseminator of such ungodliness. un-godliness. As a crusader, Sir Miller's record would rival the achievements of Sir Richard the Lionhearted. After several columns criticizing the vulgar proposition of transforming the Cowboys into steers, one wonders won-ders if the "White Knight" has lost access to source material for his column. Saturday Miller slapped the Chrony on the back for blowing the whistle on Tuesday's "Tavern Tirade." Ti-rade." He mentioned that it was nice that we si had responsible people at the U of U even amonj the students. (I'm paraphrasing) Again Miller tried the same smear Mooney tried even thougt Coach Giddings requested that the names were not for release of course if Miller's boy had been involved in-volved he might not have been so anxious to bea! the war drums ... Great Coach As far as I'm concerned, Coach Giddings is 1 , great coach, the writers downtown don't give credit for what he has accomplished with the teat on the hill. I remember that BYU, for many me moons, had a team that would be lucky to beat & High but Hack and the boys kept the typewrite, silent. j Why just two weeks ago a BYU star was ! pended for reasons that only Coach Hudspeth, and God know. We read about it in the Deseret but none of the facts were given we ve rumors from down south but as yet nothinl je appeared in the newspaper. Miller's nose m hung up on a typewriter key instead of nosing Cougarville finding out what's going on. Leaving Hack and football one wonders happened to the story on a raid made at apartment which netted some LDS studen)et t on hallucenogens. The old scripture says ; who is without sin cast the first stone. ' closser to home "all is well in Zion, yea pereth, and slowly he cheateth their hear leadeth them slowly down to hell." Check vour sources "Mr. White Knight" an if you haven't been a bit unfair. We are not ones living in sin. So if you have declde" sure yo job is to become the "Great Judge" maKe for? obtain the "Books of Life" from both sinnt assigning us to darkness. Amen. Jc - ' -' .J . but he somehow managed to misrepresent mis-represent the facts. He made no mention of the Chronicle divulging divulg-ing the Halloween drinking party, but made it sound like the players, under no pressure whatsoever waltzed up to Coach Giddings, "Guess what coach? We just tipped tip-ped a few ales downtown." From what I understand Coach Giddings requested that the names of the players be withheld but ob- nmiflr TT-i-nr 14. l : ..uujaj j.iuncj' luui n upon Himself Him-self to smear the names of the "obvious" players involved . . . Utah man huh . . . HA. Sir Gallahad Most of the criticism has come from Sir Gallahad Miller, who on his shining silver horse has managed to crusade for truth, honor, and anything that degrades de-grades the University of Utah. His column has been redundant several times during the past few weeks |
