Show Giddings Tabs Top Players Head Coach Mike Gidings recent-y recent-y announced the "Players of the Week" for last Saturday's New Mexico game. Quarterback Jack Gehrke earned laurels as offensive player of the game with a fine effort in racking up 209 yards for the game. The senior from Salt Lake City also moved up in WAC statistics in both total offense and passing offense. The offensive captain cap-tain picked up 69 yards on the ground, including a 31 yard touchdown touch-down run. He connected on seven of eighteen passes for two touchdowns touch-downs and a total of 140 yards. Blaufuss Named Blocker Blocker of the game was right tackle Armin Blaufuss. The big 245 pound senior constantly opened holes in helping the Utes pick up 221 yards on the ground. He was instrumental on the four touchdowns touch-downs scored by the Utes on the turf. Defensive player of the game was left end Norm McBride. He caused three New Mexico fumbles, two of which resulted in scores for Utah. Norm made a total of thirteen tackles, tac-kles, six of which were unassisted, and harrassed the Lobos backs all evening. Before leaving the game for reserves to take over, the Lobos were held to a minus two yards rushing. Namd "Hitter of the game" was linebacker Doug Poul-son Poul-son for the second consecutive week. The junior from Salt Lake City consistantly made crushing tackles, and was instrumental in holding the Lobos to their nonexistent non-existent running game through the first three quarters. |
