Show Women's Week ' Panelists Say ! Get a Job' I By Pani Hansen Staff Writer "No husband wants a wife who ays home all day and does -"tog but raise babies and "h dishes," said Mrs. Jackie N'okes, a member of Wednesday's Wednes-day's panel in the Associated Women Students "La Femme '67" program. The panel, arranged by Alpha Lambda Delta and Spurs, discussed dis-cussed the topic, "Your Future In or Out of the House?" Panelists Pan-elists included Dr. Laura Daines, a practicing gynoeologist, ob-sterician, ob-sterician, and teacher; Mrs. Janice Romney, president of the State Republican party, and a counselor for junior high school students in juvenile court; Mrs. Bea Lund, owner and manager of Continental Fashions; and Mrs. Jackie Nokes, employed by KSL television. The panel was moderated by University student Jan Diehl. Need Increases The general attitude of panelists panel-ists was that there is an increasing increas-ing need for well trained, intelligent, intelli-gent, ambitious women in most professional fields. When asked about male competition in medical med-ical careers, Dr. Daines advised, "Be yourself. Don't try to be a man, and your colleagues will not give you a bad time." The discussion dealt with the advantages and disadvantages of integrating the role of a career ca-reer woman with the role of a wife and mother. Panel members mem-bers said that the basic problems prob-lems were fairly well solved as long as they and their families know that the family comes first. However, they warned that a "career wife" must arrange her time schedule in order to be home for most vacations and birthdays. "Make every moment mom-ent count. Listen to your children, child-ren, you can learn a lot during a few short minutes at the breakfast table," Mrs. Romney said. Thursday's event in the AWS Women's Week program will be the "Hall of Fame." Outstanding coeds will be honored at 7:30 p.m. in the Union center ballroom. ball-room. "No matter what careor you may become involved in, you will find that you are on top of most things in the community, and this enables you to carry on an intelligent conversation with your husband." Her advice was "You must figure your own persDnality. You are under a great deal of pressure. Some people work well under pressure; pres-sure; other's do not." J leel confident in turning my business over to them whenever I leave town." Mrs. Nokes agreed she said, "Your children are ollowed to stand on their 3wn two feet, and become very independent. My son learned how to cook popcorn when he was three years old." Good Relationship All of the panelists agreed that a wife with a career has a particularly good relationship with her husband. Mrs. Lund said. "Pursue your college career ca-reer as number one. Your husband hus-band will respect every bit of education ycu have." Mrs. Rom-ney Rom-ney commented "The woman behind the boss is an extremely intelligent person."
