Show NROTC Has Tie-Cutting Ceremony Midshipman Charles Perry Clauson had his tie snipped in a NROTC ceremony Tuesday afternoon. The ceremony originated origi-nated at Pensecola and carried through to college NROTC programs. pro-grams. The tie cutting ceremony cere-mony signifies that the individual indivi-dual has soloed in flight for the first time. Eight midshipmen of the Naval Na-val Reserve Officer Training Corps are training for their private pri-vate pilot license under the Flight Indoctrination Program. The program sends the midshipmen midship-men to an evening ground school and allows them 40 hours of dual and solo flight training paid by the Navy. The training is at Salt Lake Airport with the Kelsey Ellis Air Service. The training is interesting with cross country trips and many hours of solo included, said one of the midshipmen. Participants in the University program are Jim Chadwick, Pat Korab, Frank Smith, Perry Clauson, Rex Gold, Fred Aeilts, Scott Panchison, John Little, and Frank Grimes.
