Show 1 THE MAIL B.OXr more points." It certainly doesn't suit Paul James, a reputed and famous commentator, to side any team while he is reporting a ball by ball game. I hope in the future he will just talk about the match, telling what he sees and not what he thinks. B. Vijay Kumar ty funny in their own right. One writer, waving high the banner of culture, lets slip that despised de-spised solecism of the uncuj-tured, uncuj-tured, "different . . . than"; another resents a "bold face" lie, rather than a "barefaced" one (who's censoring h i s prose?). The third, with his bare, uh, face hanging out, is "embarrassed" when he should be "embarrassed," and you can make anything you want out of that. I would like to point out a few conclusions con-clusions drawn from the recent re-cent critique. Thirty-eight percent of the teachers evaluated failed to encourage students to think. Five percent had a less than desirable knowledge of the subject. Eighty-two percent gave useful assignments. These facts seem to indicate that there-is room for improvement im-provement in many areas of education. On the whole, I think that this - evaluation is necessary for students to make intelligent intelli-gent choices in picking then-classes then-classes and teachers. It is not without faults, however, the main one being that it was not extensive enough. The committee com-mittee has made a positive effort ef-fort in the right direction and "Ahl is not lost." R. Seymour Wells Protest Too Much Editor: I do not know J. Bauman, and I did not see that notorious notori-ous (but not Swedish, of course) dance film; however, I did greatly enjoy the former's column col-umn on the latter in the "Chro-ny." "Chro-ny." I took it to be a satirical piece kidding those who flocked to see the film in hopes of being titillated. Since the "Chrony" also ran news reports re-ports on the film, as well as a "straight" review, I didn't expect ex-pect that anyone would be so naive as to take Bauman 's comical column seriously. Methinks the three writers in Monday's "Chrony" do protest pro-test too much; after all, it's a journalistic tradition to poke fun at the arts now and then. Witness locally Dan Valentine's annual private art poll on the pictures displayed at the State Fair. The avante-garde needs a shot of laughing gas now and then : if nobody's laughing, the garde probably isn't avant enough any more. Editor: Concerning Friday's editorial editor-ial advocating elimination of student government, I can only congratulate the writer on his good sense. Student government exists only so that the various BMOC and BWOC can sit around in plush offices with bigalows on the floors, irritate ir-ritate each other, and deliver grand pronouncements. They are ludicrous, and if they were merely ludicrous, they would be tolerable, though silly. However, not only are they ludicrous, but they are also expensive. This is intolerable. What has our tin-plated play government ever done for us? Nothing. What has it done to us? Lots. It's cost us thousands thou-sands of dollars a year for God knows how long, and has doubtless indirectly necessitated necessitat-ed various ruinous tuition hikes. What conceivable useful function could a bunch of money mo-ney - wasting, gaudy - off iced glory-hunters serve? Search me. Seems to me that we're here mainly to get ah education. educa-tion.
