Show Ute Collegiate Gets Cement Scholarship Edward F. Smith, 28, a University Uni-versity student, has been chosen winner of Portland Cement Association's As-sociation's regional Scholastic Awards Program in architecture. MR. SMITH will be treated by Portland to nearly three months study and touring in Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Germany and England this summer. sum-mer. The award was given for his work in designing a "shelter system" public housing complex which could be used by masses of people moving to urban areas. ED T H O R S E N, Portland's regional manager from Denver, Colorado, said Mr. Smith's precast pre-cast concrete rigid frame design and the overall excellence of his system planning won him the award. The award presentation marked the second consecutive one given a University architecture architec-ture student. MR. SMITH will be one of eight from the U.S. and Canada to make the European tour this summer. They will spend time in study sessions at Fontainbleau, France, and will make study tours to the other countries. |
