Show Guest Editorials Elections Need Wisdom The rash of campaign posters around campus has jointed the "Spartan Daily" in announcing that 40 candidates are seeking control of the 1965-66 student government. The positions they seek range from president to sophomore representative. No candidate is unopposed. With about 20,000 students at San Jose State it could be expected that a good deal of enthusiasm and controversy will be generated during the campaigns. Yet, the election chairman predicts a meager three or four thousand people to show up at the polls. Could it be there is a trace of apathy rippling through the "Spartan Spirit?" There is some wisdom, however, in a number of those who decline to vote. They don't know the candidates candi-dates or what they stand for. If many students did vote, they would do so in total ignorance. It would appear then the intelligent student would survey the entire field. He would analyze every candidate candi-date and his background, platform, public statements and performance. With this in mind, the voter would cast his ballot knowing the people he selects will produce pro-duce the government most desirable to him. ASB will be facing many tough problems in the years ahead. As the college grows, student leaders must grow with it. It is imperative that the best possible candidate holds each office. It is up to an intelligent student body to put him there.
