Show I By R. D. WILDE l j Sport Editor Utah's baseball team has, thus far, shown several weaknesses. Their prime weakness is in the area of hitting, although this has become less prevalent in the past few games. IN CALIFORNIA, over the spring break, the Utes lost too many games but made them up in the following two weeks on their home field. Pitching, so far, has been good, but it seems to lack the starting start-ing strength necessary for a conference winning team. In fielding, the Redskins have been hit by the usual early season errors due to inexperience from few games. Few games may be the one factor that could stop the Utes in the WAC conference. ARIZONA STATE has had 24 games to date and have an outstanding out-standing record of 21-3 win-loss; while at the same time, Utah has a 7-5 record. The extra practice and games that the team from the sunnier portion of the conference are able to attain could well be the difference between a good and poor season. One redeeming fact that could bring the Utes into a better position is the division of the conference into north and south brackets. Utah being in the Northern division and Arizona State in the Southern division, will give the Redskins a chance to weed out their problems and build into a winning team. THE UTES should have little trouble in placing number one in their division, which will give them a chance to nullify last year's win by the Arizona team. But it is a long way to the end of the season and more than six weeks in between; anything can happen and it's hoped that it will. |
