Show Concert Review Beaux Arts Musicians Demonstrate Talents By BOB McQUEEN Chronicle Music Critic Kingsbury Hall was a three-ring circus of instrumental virt- v uosity Monday evening, when The Beaux Arts Trio of New York, composed of Menahem Pressler, piano, Daniel Guilet, violin, and J Bernard Greenhouse, cello, made its appearance. OPENING WITH the Beethoven Trio in B-flat major, Opus 11, the Trio displayed the perfection which has made it world famous. Each member of the trio is an accomplished and re- nowned soloist. University . students will remember Bernard 5. Greenhouse from his recent appearance with the Bach Ana group. Together, their music is superb. . Mr. Guilet and his violin captured the hearts of the i auo- j. ience with delightful numbers full of gimmicks to delight tne q unseasoned, and entertain the seasoned concert-goers. IF MR. GUILET was not enough, the trio made sure the 5 audience would be fully dazzled by Mr. Pressler. Chopm an Liszt spell piano excitement, and Mr. Pressler made the most them. His whole body was in motion most of the time. Here the program took a delightful change. The lush 1 rneiw ;j tones of Mr. Greenhouse's cello added a sincerity to the F gram which the other numbers seemed to lack. Bloch's Pye !i from "Chassidic Life," was especially successful. Mr. Greenhouse's abilities, but in a quiet, more introspect i : way. i THE TRIO attempted to conclude the concert with the i Tn j in A minor Op. 50, by Tchaikovsky. It was a magnificent nun ( excellently performed, but not enough for the Salt Lake auaie To satisfy them, the Trio had to perform a movement trom Dvorak "Dumky" Trio. The Beaux Arts Trio received the u Prix du Disque (Paris) for their recording of this work. University students have a rare opportunity to ften dis. concerts free. The hall should have been packed.
