Show BYU Trounces Utes In 98 - 67 Victory Chambers hit a real good 16 points. BOTH LASH and Chambers put on a fine defensive game but could not stop the outstanding offense and defense of the two BYU guards, Dick NemeJka and Mike Gardner. Midway in the second half, the Cougars found their shooting shoot-ing eye and in a magnificent display of accurate shooting and fast breaking they ran their lead from 69 to 47 up to an outrage-, ous 84 to 55 in three and a half minutes. This display brought the audience at the George Albert Smith iFeldhouse to a roaring pitch. ....With spirits running high, the Cougars went on to finish off the down hearted Utes. The two teams will meet again on Feb. 20 in Salt Lake. The Cougars of Brigham Young University, Saturday trounced the Redskins o f Utah, in what seemed to be a basketball cotnest of the Utes trying to stop BYU from hitting the 100 point mark. With a final score of 98 to 67, the Cougars showed a great display of fast breaking and excellent ex-cellent bench strength that the Utes, who are often noted for their hustling team, could not stop. THE GAME began with the Y taking a quick 6 to 0 lead, which set the pace for the entire game. At the end of the first half the score stood at a whopping 43 to 26 for the team from Provo. Coach Jack Gardner tried a strategy of wearing the Cougars Cou-gars out. With the score at 11-17, 11-17, Gardner put in a new team whose only job was to keep the ball moving and try to tire their opponents. But strength from the bench of the Cougars, thwarted Gardner's plan. Both Granny Lash and Jerry Chambers played a good game for Utah. Lash hit 14 points from the floor and foul line and |
