One fine example ex-ample was the coverage of the events following President Kennedy's Ken-nedy's death, with an accompanying accom-panying moratorium on advertising adver-tising until after the President's Presi-dent's funeral. We were, however, genuinely surprised that television companies com-panies did not sell advertising for the Kennedy coverage. This was due to the national TV companies' decree that there would be no ads sold. But there are other areas for which television deserves criticism. criti-cism. Our current gripe is about the process of showing late movies with widely spaced commercials at the beginning, with the time between commercials commer-cials lessning as the picture progresses. Toward the end of the show, commercials come every five minutes, it seems, sometimes with three or four commercials right on top of each other. WE REALIZED that television televi-sion probably would not be possible without advertising, without someone to pay for reaching the American consumer. con-sumer. Television's problem is that the viewer does not have a choice. If he is in the middle mid-dle of a good show, and isn't irregular, or doesn't have a headache, or can't afford a new car, he must suffer through the advertisement.
