Show LA. Tenor To Sing 'Cavalleria5 Keith Wyatt, Los Angeles tenor, ten-or, will star in Mascagnl's "Cav-alleria "Cav-alleria Rusticana," one of two operas' op-eras' which will be sung in English Eng-lish April 3-25 in Kingsbury Hall. J The University Theater and the Opera Workshop will also present "Gianni Schlcchi" by Puccini on the same program which Is the first major-season University production in six seasons. Ardean Watts, director of the Opera Workshop and musical director of both operas, will conduct con-duct the Utah Symphony in the performance of both works THE PRODUCTIONS will be directed by Dr. Ralph E. Mar-getts. Mar-getts. Sets will be designed by Vern Adix and costumes will be by Sereta Jones. Mr. Wyatt, who will sing the tenor role of Turiddu, has been a soloist with the Robert Shaw and Roger Wagner Chorales in tours of both Europe and America. Ameri-ca. Critics have praised him as a tenor "of fervor, beauty and ringing tones" for his performances perform-ances at Redlands Bowl with the San Francisco Cosmopolitan Cosmopoli-tan Opera and other leading companies. He has sung leading roles in "Cavelleria Rusticana," "Aida," "Faust," "111 Travatore" and "La Boheme." FOUR UTAH artists will sing leads in "Cavalleria," according to Dr. Margetts and Mr. Watts. Soprano Lila Kitchin Martindale, recent winner of the regional Metropolitan Opera auditions, will perform the role of Santuz-za. Santuz-za. Baritone William Birk will sing Alfie, Turiddu's rival in the tragic romance. Mezzo soprano Beryl Smith will sing the role of Lucia. "Cavalleria" will be performed with a chorus of 75 voices, according ac-cording to the directors. |
