Show TIGERS SEEK THIRD WIN FRIDAY NIGHT The Milford Tigers go into the 1956 football season riding high on two practice game wins, with the entire squad in top physical and mental condition, determined to add a third victory vic-tory to their string but tar from over-confident. They play Hurricane Friday Fri-day night at Milford. at 8 p. m. Two weeks ago the Tigers defeated Richfield, 26-0, and last Friday evening hung the North Sanpete scalp on their belt, winning by an identical 26-0 score. Eddie Tomsik accounted for three T-Ds and 18 points in the game against Sanpete, going over from the 3 with the game only 6 minutes old, after he had teamed up with Horton and Wise to move the ball down-field down-field on power plays after receiving re-ceiving the kickoff; he added two more in the third stanza, and Horton . place-kicked one point and passed into the end-zone end-zone for another conversion. Wise" made good a quarterback quarter-back sneak in the second quarter, quar-ter, from about 2 yards oat, for Milfords other tally. Pre-season emphasis has been on defense and downfield blocking, block-ing, as Coach Lee Pettey prepared pre-pared his charges for the '56 grid wars, and this week he has been stressing pass defense, expecting ex-pecting a stiff aerial attack from the Hurricane invaders. The defense training has paid off, and the boys have learned their lessons. 'Neither Richfield nor North Sanpete was able to penetrate as far as the Tiger 20, and as Coach Pettey has pointed out, "They can't lick you if they can't cross your goal line." The downfield blocking of the Tigers is generally superior to anything they have shown in past years, and their will to win and team spirit are excellent. excel-lent. They should be contenders contend-ers in all their league games. |
