Show Reseeded Grazing Land South of Beaver to Replace 'Dust Bowl' A mature reseeding plot near the Beaver Iron County dust area is to be put into use this fall, according to Keith Norris, of the Bureau of Land Management. Manage-ment. The plot of 1200 acres is one of the two in the Buckskin Valley Val-ley which have been planted to take the grazing load from the Buckhorn Flat area. Through reseeding it is hoped to remove cattle from the Buckhorn Flat area so that vegetation can help control the blowing of dust. The second 1,200 acre plot was planted last fall and has produced an excellent stand of crested wheat and intermediate wheat. A late spring snow and a late July rain gave a high percentage of emergence ot seedlings on the new plot, Mr. Norris said. The project which is an indirect in-direct method for dust control, is expected to increase the carrying capacity of the planted area about four times. It is located lo-cated approximately 10 miles east of Highway 91. .The plot which will be opened to permittees per-mittees this fall is on the north side of the road which goes through Buckskin ' Valley, and the new plot is on the south side of the road. The area planted last fall will not be open to grazing until the fall of 1958. The reseeding has been done co-operatively by the Beaver Valley Cattle Assn. and the Bu. reau of Land Management. |
