Show FIRST GIRLS i SOFTBALL PLAYED; SCHEDULE RUNS I EIGHT WEEKS Milford's girl softballers opened open-ed their 1952 competitive season last Monday, when the team captained cap-tained by Darma Lofthouse defeated de-feated the RaNae Myers squad, 14-5. The second game, between teams led by Jeanne Bracken and Sandra Davis, called after the first inning because of darkness, dark-ness, will be played Thursday, June 19, starting at 7:30 p. m. The league schedule calls for two games each Monday, starting at 6:30 p. m., with the lights at the softball diamond to be in operation before next week's games. Roster of the four teams entered en-tered follows: Team No. 1 RaNae Myers, captain; Shirley Hutchings, Lyn-ona Lyn-ona Kroman, Mary Jane McCul-iey, McCul-iey, Jeanette Williams, Barbara Tanner, Florence Pitchforth, Ruth Cline, Dona Beitz, Joyce Beitz and Shirley Tomsik. Team No. 2 Darma Lofthouse, Loft-house, captain; Ethel Cook, Margene Lofthouse, Sally Jones, Gayle Tolley, Ora Holdaway, Deon Lofthouse, Sharon Kesler, Dorothy Vestal, Loretta Matlock, Mat-lock, Marion Lofthouse, Shirlean Myers. Team No. 3 Jeanne Bracken, captain; Nancy Hillman, Norma Reese, Marie U'Ren, Jerry Lyman, Ly-man, Nadine White, Dorothy Hoopes, Vanda O'Leary, Pat Kesler, Kes-ler, Gerry Hawkins, Geniel Moore and Donna Baudino. Team No. 4 (Minersville) Sandra Davis, captain; Janice Carter, Jane Carter, Leola Mathews, Math-ews, Eve McKnight, Dona Gil-1ns, Gil-1ns, Jackie Blackburn, Verlene Gray, and Marsha Carter. Ross Patterson has agreed to umpire the games, and Ralph Moore is scorekeeper. I Aaron Hansen, director of the I summer recreation program, is j in charge of the league play, I which will continue each Mon- day evening for eight weeks. Ad-: Ad-: mission is free. I More than 50 children had registered reg-istered Tuseday afternoon for the regular youth recreation program, Mr. Hansen said. All children, from grades 1 to 12, are invited to join the afternoon program, and may be enrolled at any time by seeing Mr. Hansen Han-sen or Miss Deon Lofthouse, assistant as-sistant director. The activities include various types of ball games and competitive competi-tive athletics, and supervised play for the younger children. The groups meet at the high school football field each afternoon, after-noon, with the following schedule sched-ule for various age groups: First to Third grades, 1 to 3 p. m. I Fourth to Sixth Grades, 2 to I 4 p. m. Seventh to Twelfth Grades, 1 to 6 p. m. |
