Show U OF U SCHEDULES TWO TOP FLIGHT BROADWAY SHOWS A smash Broadway musical and a great dramatic opera will be presented as the University of Utah's annual outdoor summer festival in July. I "Kiss Me Kate," Cole Porter's musical that broke box office records on Broadway three years ago, wn open the festival July 7 and run thru July 12. Saint Saen's operatic classic, "Samson "Sam-son and Delilah," opens July 17 and runs thru July 19. Patricia Morrison, the "Kate" of the original production, will recreate her Broadway role in Stadium Bowl. The male lead will be played by Jon Geyans, stellar bass-baritone of the New York City Opera Co., who was starred in both festival productions produc-tions last year under the name of George Jpngeyans. Claramae Turner, concert and .operatic contralto, and Lloyd Thomas Leech, tenor with the I New York City Opera Co., share leading roles in "Samson and Delilah" with Geyans, who will sing the role of the high priest, j Maurice Abravanel, director of j the Utah Symphony and former conductor of both Metropolitan Opera and Broadway productions, produc-tions, is music director of the festival again. Dramatic talent again will be directed by Dr. C. Lowell Lees, head of the University's Univer-sity's department of speech, and choreography by William F. Christensen, professor of the University . Ballet Theater and former director of the San Francisco Fran-cisco Ballet. Mail orders for combination tickets for both festival .productions .produc-tions are being accepted at the Summer Festival Box Office, University of Utah, according to Gail Plummer, festival general manager. Single performance tickets will not go on sale until after the season ticket campaign is closed, he said. The combination combina-tion ticket offers festival patrons pat-rons the choice of the best seats in Stadium Bowl and a saving of one-third under that of single tickets for the two shows, Mr. Plummer pointed out. Prices for the dual ticket offer range from $5 to $1.50. |
