Show I HARLAN; FIRST PLACE IN AMERICANISM ESSAY Winners for this year's Americanism Amer-icanism essay contest are Harlan Anderson copping first place, Earl Stonehocker, second, and Gayle Tolley, third. Mrs. Powell Pow-ell Smyth, American Legion Auxiliary committee chairman, announced the winners Tuesday. Three judges, se!ected by the AUxUary, picked tne best essays from a total of eight. "As they were ail pretty much the same quality, it was hard to weed out the lesser ones," Mrs. Smyth said. Mrs. Smyth stated: "This is only my first year at this type of work but eight essays seem to be a small number in a school as large as Mil'ford's. It may be that there were too many other interests provoking the school during that time. We sincerely do appreciate the effort given forth on the part of those peo-, pie who submitted an essay, though." |
