Breaking a skylight to gain admittance, the burglars burg-lars were foiled by a heavy wire mesh screen under the skylight. It is believed they broke the skylight Sunday night, and being ; unable to force the wire mesh, they broke into the Tri-State Lum- ' ber company building to steal a pair of wire cutters. The Tri-State Tri-State building was entered sometime Sunday night, and apparently ap-parently the only items missing are two or three pocket knives and a pair of wire cutters, which were found in the Jefferson Mercantile store with the Tri-State Tri-State cost mark and price still intact. A roll of clothes line had been dragged to a window in the Tri-State building, but apparently was not used. After entering the Jefferson Mercantile store Monday night, the thieves rifled the cash registers reg-isters of about $60, then with a heavy hammer knocked the knob from the safe in the office. When the safe was struck, a tear-gas bomb wired to the combination com-bination was set off, and the burglars left hurriedly, leaving behind their tools and a Navy issue flashlight. City Marshal D. A. Smith and Deputy jyier.iJ'f L. G. Clay investigated in-vestigated the burglary. Sheriff Clay photographed fingerprints found on the broken skylight, which he is checking with FBI files. |
