This i American Education Week, so roclaimed by the President of ur country and the Governor f our state. How appropriate it is that e spend a week, perhaps even iriger, in studying our schools, jnerkan education long has een recognized as having a derive de-rive role to play in helping ur country hold the line for eedom. The very basis of our emocratic government is an lert, well-informed public. A good education, one which ';uly meets all the needs of the iliool-age population, is one of ur best weapons for fighting ' le attacks of foreign ideologies j hich reek to destroy the foun-1 atinn of our republic. Our i ihools stand as a constant re- J jnc'er of the importance of , jjjuiar education in the sur-val sur-val and growth of our form j ' government. Theie is another good reason r food citizens to turn their jtention to the schools this tek. With increasing de- j .nnds being made on American romes to provide for an exuded ex-uded military program, we ' e faced with reducing expend- j ares in other areas.
