Show NEWS NOTES FROM MINERSVILLE By MRS. EMILY GILLINS The Mothers' Day program, under direction of Bishop Ruben W. Dotson and Supt. Carl W. Truman, was as follows: Singing was conducted by Mrs. Alvaretta Robinson, and accompanied by Mrs. Phyllis I Truman. Opening prayer, Mr. Charles K. Jameson. The theme of the program was "Mother's Place in Civic, Religious and School Affairs." Short talks on this subject were made by Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. Truman, Mrs. Loretta Myers and Mrs. Leona Roberts. Children participating with short paragraphs on what their school and religion meant were Darrell Roberts, Larry Fother-ingham, Fother-ingham, Ann Williams and Penla Dee Patterson. Sisters Alma Jean and Joan Eyre gave a vocal duet, "Mother," "Moth-er," accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Charlene Williams. Other musical numbers included in-cluded a violin -solo and a vocal solo by Mr. Harold Baker, a ladies' double trio, Mrs. Reva Williams, Mrs. Eloise Murdock, Mrs. Ada Edwards, Mrs. Shirley Fotheringham, Mrs. Ileen Gray, ' Mrs. Reva Albrecht, Mrs. Elinor Eli-nor Roberts and Mrs. Emily Gil-I Gil-I lins, sang "Home." A musical reading by Mrs. Leona Roberts preceded remarks re-marks by Bishop Dotson. The closing prayer was by Mrs. Lucy P. Williams. A family dinner honoring Mrs. Jim Rollins on Mother's Day included the following members of the family: Mrs. Beth Taylor of Farmington, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Rollins and family fam-ily and her mother, Mrs. Barton, Bar-ton, Mr. and Mrs. Dalton Failes and family,' Mr. and Mrs. Frank Grimes and family, and Mrs. Janet Rollins and family. Miss Mauri Rollins has been released from the Milford Hospital Hos-pital and is recuperating at home from her fall from a horse two weeks ago. Mr. and Mrs. Laban Burt of Beaver spent Sunday at Min-ersville Min-ersville celebrating Mothers' Day at the home of her daugh- i ter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Dotson. Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Rollins were in Beaver Tuesday on business. bus-iness. Mrs. Golda Murray and Mrs. Joe Fotheringham and children, sisters of Mr. Lee Waters, were in town Monday visiting Lee and his wife and family. While here they also visited Mr. and Mrs. Keith Hollingshead, a sister-in-law of Mrs. Fotheringham, Fothering-ham, and Mrs. Emily Gillins, a friend of Mrs. Murray. Mrs. Alba Gillins was honored hon-ored Mothers' Day with the following fol-lowing members of her family present for dinner: Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Stevenson of Cedar City, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Gillins and family of Beaver, Mr. and Mrs. Hilton Gillins and family, Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Eyre, Mr. and Mrs. Rulon Eyre, and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Gillins. Mr. and Mrs. William Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Neal Gressman, Mr. Clarence Corbridge Jr., and Miss Phyllis Erickson left bridge and Mrs. Sadie Mc-Knight, Mc-Knight, mother of Mrs. Corbridge, Cor-bridge, of Littlefield, Ariz., spent Sunday at Minersville to be with their mother, Mrs. Hannah Corbridge, who is ill. A number of school activities took place during the week. .On Thursday, the first grade, under direction of Mrs. Bernice Gillins, presented a program at school honoring their mothers, who were present. After the program each child presented his or her mother with an attractive at-tractive potted plant. They then served oatmeal cookies, which the class had made at school, and punch. The second and third grades also honored their mothers on Thursday, under the direction of their teacher, Mrs. Thora Bee-son. Bee-son. A program was presented and each mother was given a hot-holder plaque which the children had made at school. The Auxiliary to the American Amer-ican Legion has announced prizes in the present contest for improvement to homes will be given in the following categories: cate-gories: 1. For the cleanest surroundings. surround-ings. 2. For the most improved home and surroundings. 3. For the most beautiful home and surroundings. Approximately one month remains re-mains and everyone should make every' effort to qualify for a prize. New improvements for the week, as noted, include the following: fol-lowing: A new slab fence is being erected by Golden Marshall on his property on the street entering en-tering town, and greatly im-iproves im-iproves the town approach view, j Mr. Marshall is given a hearty "thanks" for this. Mr. and Mrs. Newell Marshall and Mr. and Mrs. Rex Marshall have erected attractive trellis fences on their respective residences. resi-dences. , Mr. and Mrs. Dale Dotson have completed the fence in front of their lot. The Town Board of Minersville, Miners-ville, under direction of Mayor Clarence Gillins, has undertaken under-taken a baseball project for the coming summer. A large crew of volunteers was on hand Monday Mon-day night in the lot northwest of the church building, prepar- ing the ground for a baseball diamond. Mr. and Mrs. Parley Fisher of Milford were visitors at the home of Mr. Fisher's mother, Mrs. M. D. Fisher. Mr. LaVere Carter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Carter, has received an honorable discharge from the navy and is home visiting vis-iting his parents and relatives. LaVere has been stationed the greater part of his three years' service as second class petty efficer at San Diego, Calif. Mrs Edith Bradfield has been confined to her bed due to illness. ill-ness. K Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pryor, Mr and Mrs. Harold Pryor, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Pryor, of Minersville, Min-ersville, and Mrs. Collette Grant, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Pryor and Mr. and Mrs. Byron Limb of Ruth, Nev., and Charles "Mick" Pryor and Mrs. Benny Afflick of Ely, Nev., and all grandchildren, grandchil-dren, met at Lehman Caves to celebrate Mothers' Day. This is the first complete reunion the . immediate Pryor family has had " since before the war. A wonderful won-derful time was enjoyed by the family. Mrs. Ethel Myers, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Myers, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Stewart, Mrs. LaRue Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. George Myers, Mrs. Albateen Roberts attended the funeral Sunday of Clarence Bentley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bently, of Wellington, Wel-lington, Utah. Mrs. Bently is the former Cora Myers. Mrs. I. N. Nolder spent Moth- ers' Day at the home of her son- y in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen A. Williams of Milford. In the afternoon they drove to Beaver to visit Mrs. Nolder's children, Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Dalton and' family, and Mr. and Mrs. Grant Pryor and family. Mrs. Etta Rollins returned Friday from 'Salt Lake, where she had received medical attention. Saturday night for Los Angeles, where they will each visit friends and relatives. This is Miss Erickson's first trip to California, and she will spend her vacation with her ' grandmother, grand-mother, Mrs. Nell Erickson. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Rollins and daughter, Mrs. Beth Taylor, I were visitors in Beaver on Tuesday. Tues-day. Mr. Merrill Jameson underwent under-went an operation at the Iron County Hospital Tuesday. His condition was reported as fair. Mrs. Darwin Marshall returned re-turned home Sunday from the Iron County Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Thompson of Milford enjoyed dinner on Mothers' Day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Blackburn. Black-burn. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Aubry and family of Salt Lake were home to celebrate Mothers' Day at Mrs. Augustine Marshall's. Mr. and Mrs. George Cor-I SCHOOL NEWS The sixth grade of Minersville Miners-ville enjoyed a trip to Lehman Caves last Thursday. Mr. Truman Tru-man Bradfield, Mr. Thurman Eyre and Mr. Sherman Carter, principal of the school, furnished fur-nished transportation for the group. A grand time was had by all. Mrs. Bernice Gillins and Mrs. Thora Beeson, instructors of the first, second: and third I grades, respectively, took their groups on an outing to the Lincoln Lin-coln Mine on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Pryor, Mrs. Ima Pryor and Mrs. I. N. Nolder made a trip to Zions last week, and visited Mr. Nolder, Nol-der, who is in a rest home at Anderson's Ranch. Mr. Nolder seemed in good spirits and fairly good health. A celebration will be held f : " Saturday honoring the birthday C of the town. A program will be presented at 1 o'clock, followed fol-lowed by a ball game in the new ball park. A lunch will be served at the dance, which is to be held Saturday Sat-urday evening. A large crowd is expected and the entire county is heartily invited to , attend. i Mr. Jim Dotson enjoyed Sunday Sun-day dinner at the home of his daughter . and family, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Wood. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Eyre, Mr. Garrold Eyre and Miss Marybelle Murdock of Beaver enjoyed a trip to Las Vegas over the week-end, taking in. tourist attractions and visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Eyre and family. Mrs. Kathryn Schnepel and family of Beaver have been honored by being asked to supply sup-ply a chorus by the stake on Stake Day, and also to present a chorus at quarterly conference confer-ence at Salt Lake in June. This is indeed an opportunity for everyone and those desiring to participate should be at the Milford Mil-ford Ward Chapel on Sunday at 3 p. m. This applies to Minersville, Miners-ville, Milford and Milford Valley. Val-ley. Last week Mrs. Schnepel held practice at Minersville. Everyone is urged to come.
