Show Double-Dance to Feature Annual Forty-Niner Celebration; Parade, Boxing and Games Are Highlights Final plans for the big 1950 : , ! . Final plans for the big 1950 Forty-Niners Celebration, held annually by Milford Post No. 16 of the American Legion, were announced today. Commander John L. Grimshaw pointed out that this is the only celebration j scheduled for Milford this year, and it is expected to be a memorable mem-orable affair. Business houses of the city will be expected to close for the afternoon of the celebration next Friday, May 26th, and allow al-low their employees as well as store officials to enjoy the occasion oc-casion . 1 The celebration is scheduled I to begin with mammoth parade at 1:30 p. m. Parade Marshal Bud James plans a very colorful color-ful affair, with prizes going to the different divisions from the children's entries to the more elaborate organization and business bus-iness house floats. The American Amer-ican Legion Auxiliary will construct con-struct the Queen Float, but the Auxiliary entry will not compete com-pete for the prize money. Auxiliary Aux-iliary President Judy Briscoe announced that votes for the Forty-Niner Queen were rolling in, and it promises to be a tight race. Entered in the Queen Contest Con-test are Geniel Tanner, Jean-I Jean-I ette GillinSj Pearl Rigby, and Afton Hollis, all Milford High I School students who are noted for their beauty and charm. I Voting in the Queen Contest I closes Saturday night, May 20th, giving the Auxiliary ladies a week for final tabulation and arranging costumes for the Forty-Niner Queen and her attendants. at-tendants. Schedule of events follows: Parade, 1:30 p. m. j Following the parade, the children will be invited to the park lawn by the, library, where Chairman XaMar Outzen will pay big cash prizes for the best runners in various age groups, and outstanding athletes in other novelty events. At 3 p. m. the Milford hard-I hard-I ball team will meet the Beaver City nine in the opener of this season's baseball program Milford Mil-ford Fairgrounds. Scout Leader Bill Nichols will officiate at a boxing smoker at 7 p. m. This will be held at the Library Park, on the lawn, and Bill has some fine little scrappy battlers lined up to toss leather in a well-rounded card of bouts. There will be no admission for this feature attraction, at-traction, but contributions will be accepted. Two big dances with both ! orchestras playing at the same time, will feature the evening and the wee sma' hours. The Melody Makers will furnish music for dancing at the Legion Pavilion for the younger set, and Bill Thompson will keep the oldsters old-sters happy with his music for the schottische, reels, military mil-itary two-steps and other dances popular during the old Days of '49. Tickets pur-I pur-I chased at either Arion Hall or the Legion Pavilion will be honored at both places. Concessions will be open at parade time, thruout the afternoon, after-noon, and during the evening. "Games of Chance For Fun" will be featured, as usual, in a well-lighted spot near the dance floors. |
