Anyone Any-one having weeds they want sprayed should contact Mr. Cockett Cock-ett or the county agent. The chemical 2 4-D is being used in the sprayer. The results of using this chemical have been somewhat variable, but some good kills have been obtained with it. On wild morning glory and white top there is sure to be some regrowth the following year. It will take at least two or three years to kill these two weeds with 2 4-D, These weeds should be sprayed before they go to seed to prevent them from spreading, It is possible to spray for weeds In corn, wheat, oats and barley, using a light application of 2 4-D. Spraying for wild morning glory in corn was tried last year at Minersville and good results were obtained. Quack grass is quite prevalent in the Beaver area, and farmers should be on the lookout for it. Atlacide or sodium chlorate is quite effective against quack grass, however, this sterilizes the soil for several years. Some of the new oil sprays look rather promising for the control of quack grass. |
