Show COUNTY PIONEER DIES HERE AFTER ACTIVE LIFE George Ilopkin Eyre, prominent prom-inent Minersville churchman , and well-known Beaver County Coun-ty pioneer, died at the home of his son, Golden W. Eyre of Milford, last Mondav. at the age of 81. Mr. Eyre, a native of Minersville, Miners-ville, had spent his life as a farmer and miner, and had been an ardent worker in the L. D. S. Church. He was born in Minersville on April 22, 1866, to George and Rebecca Hopkin Eyre, who had emigrated to Utah from England in 1861, as converts to the L. D. S. Church. On August 16, 1885 he married Emma Walker of Minersyille, and four years later they were re-married in the L. D. S. Temple at St. George. In 1896 he began a four-year mission to New Zealand and Australia. Aus-tralia. While ho was serving the church on this mission, Mrs. Eyre accepted employment in j the Minersville Coop store, and cared for their five children Mrs. Eyre preceded him in death on April 28, 1930. Mr.rEyre was baptised in 1875 by Robert Easton, and as a youth was ordained a deacon. On Nov. 21,1889, he was ordained an elder by James G. Bleak, A member of the Quorum of Seventies Seven-ties of Buaver Stake, he was the 12th president of the quorum. In 1916 he was ordained a high priest by David O. McKay, and was first counsellor in 1916. Prior to that he had served as assistant superintendent of the Minersville Sunday School for many years. He was ordained Bishop of the Minersville Ward, April 2, 1919, by Mr. McKay, and was sustained as bishop until 1928. He served as stake missionary mis-sionary in Beaver City, in 1926 in Parowan Stakein 1927 and in Milford in 1934, whfen he was named High Counsellor of the Beaver Stake. uevoting nis me to service to others, Mr. Eyre was "called in" when any of his friends or neighbors neigh-bors suffered illness, and during the county-wide smallpox epidemic epi-demic many years ago, he visited many homes which had no other callers except the doctor. Funeral services, held in the Minersville L. D. S. Ward chapel Wednesday afternoon, were as follows: Song, Alvaretta Robinson and Ileen Jameson; opening prayer Leonard Banks: talk, Frank Williams; Wil-liams; song, Mrs. June Pearson Mrs. Mclba Baker and Mrs. Ada Griffiths; talk, Bishop Clark Goodwin of Milford; trio, Mr. and Mrs. Marcine Davis and Mrs Vivian Marshall; closing prayer Mr. Moroni Myers. Burial was in the Minersville cemetery. Surviving are seven children. Mrs. Idona Davis, Mrs. Augusta Marshall, Mrs. Gladys Myers and Mrs. Alta Kelsey of Minersville; Mr. Golden W. Eyre; of Milford Mrs. Lola Bohn of VCarp. Nov. and Mrs. Clara Evans of Stockton; Stock-ton; a brother, Janies Eyre of Lyman, Wyo.; a sister, Mrs. Rebecca Re-becca Bradshaw of ; Salt Lake City; 50 grandchildren and 66 great-grandchildren. |
