Show Republican whip to speak at Monday banquet Rep. Leslie C. Arends (Ft. 111.) the Republican Whip in the House of Representatives, will be the featured speaker at the Utah County Lincoln Day Banquet in Provo, February Febru-ary 17, at the Eldred Center. Mr. Arends, asked to come to Utah for the special speeh by Rep. Laurence J. Burton, has been a member of the House for seventeen consecutive terms and is fifth in seniority among the entire House membership. mem-bership. "Mr. Arends represents the 17th District of Illinois, some 100 miles south of Chicago," Rep. Burton said. "He has been Republican Whip in the House longer than anyone in history on either side of the aisle, since 1943." Burton, who will be speaking at the Utah County Banquet himself, is one of Mr. Arends' Assistant Whips. The duty of the Whip Organization Or-ganization is to keep members advised with respect to the legislative program on the Floor. Mr. Arends is the top Republican Re-publican on the Armed Services Committee and also serves on the House Committee on Standards Stand-ards of Official Conduct. The Utah County Banquet will begin first with a recep tion at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner and the speech of the guest of honor, Mr. Arends. Tickets are available through Republican district chairmen or precinct officers. |
