The central theme of this new guide "Democracy at Work", is that social living, being broader than any one area of the curriculum, takes place in the child's many experiences ex-periences both in and out of school. "The child himself must see relationships and use related re-lated content and materials to solve problems and to achieve purposes which are real to him" Michaelis says. It is the hope of the educators educa-tors that through this planned course of concepts and experiences exper-iences that children will emerge as young citizens having a deeper appreciation and un derstanding of their rights, privileges and responsibilities in a democratic society. Five kits of material, pictures, pic-tures, tapes, etc. on democracy have been assembled by the fourth grade teachers to accompany ac-company the guide and are a-vailable a-vailable at the Nebo District's Instructional Media Center to be used by the teachers. |
