Show I Large percent local students in college Approximately 48.6 of the high school graduates over the past nine years in Utah County went on to enter en-ter college at one of Utah's instituitons of higher learning. learn-ing. This fact was brought out in a Utah Foundation analysis ana-lysis of a study of high school graduate and college freshmen trends in Utah prepared pre-pared by the Office of Institutional Insti-tutional Studies at the University Uni-versity of Utah. Moro graduates The Utah Foundation ana lysis shows that there were 2,132 high school graduates in Utah County during the 1966-67 school year compared compar-ed with 1,213 in 1957-58. It is anticipated that by 1977-78 there will be 2,481 students graduating from the county's high schools. Tiie nine Utah colleges and universities report that in 11167 there were 1,050 entering en-tering freshmen from Utah County. Based on past trends it is estimated that there will be 1,063 entering freshmen from Utah County enrolled in Utah's colleges during 1970. 1,194 during 1975, and 1,201 during 1978. Foundation analysts point out that throughout the state of Utah the percentage of high school graduates who enroll in one of the Utah colleges averaged 51.5 during dur-ing the nine-year period of 1959 through 19G7. Office of Education indicated in-dicated that approximately 5 of the undergraduate students from Utah were attending at-tending a college in another , state. More freshmen The study shows that between be-tween 1959 and 1967 the total to-tal number of high school graduates rose by 63. During Dur-ing this same period, the number of entering freshmen fresh-men from the state at the nine Utah colleges and universities uni-versities increased by 76. In 1959 entering freshmen from Utah enrolled at one of Utah's colleges equaled 50.9 percent of the preceding high school graduating class total. By 1967 the percentage had risen to 55.0. Altogether, the Utah Foundation analysis shows that there were 9,058 entering enter-ing freshmen from Utah enrolled en-rolled in the Utah institutions institu-tions of higher education last fall. Based on the projections pro-jections in the study, it is anticipated that the entering enter-ing freshmen class from Utah will reach 9,985 by 1970, 11,055 by 1975, and 11,112 by 1978. |
