Show Scenic Circle group elects directors to help boost Four Seasons and the shortest run they will make will he from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City ... a trip Seven directors were elected to head the recently organized Scenic Circle organization at a meeting held last Wednesday night at the civic center. Frank Memory, businessman and city councilman, was elected president presi-dent with Bryce Thorn, vice president, and G. Lowry Anderson, An-derson, secretary. Other directors direc-tors include Jack Allen, Kent Murdock, Leon Frazier and Rik Pearson. It was decided to make the organization a permanent, per-manent, non-profit corporation and to make available money to Pour-Seasons to help boost development of a ski area above Springville and Provo. Contract explained During the opening part of the meeting, Louis Crandall, president, and Jackson Howard, chairman of the board of Four, Seasons, were present to explain ex-plain provisions of a "joint venture" ven-ture" contract which the organization or-ganization hopes will lead to development of the ski area. The contract is between the Four Seasons Corporation and American Resort Services Inc., Which will manage the operation opera-tion of the project upon completion. com-pletion. Also explained was the need for a new feasibility study, upgrading up-grading the previous economic appraisal made by the corporation corpor-ation two and a half years ago. While the Scenic Circle organization or-ganization voted by an overwhelming over-whelming majority to give their funds to Four Seasons to aid with the feasibility study, the exact way the money will be transferred will be left to the directors. Feasibility study The feasibility study is more than just an economic appraisal. apprais-al. It includes the complete financial arrangements through a revenue bond issue, and should be completed within 60 to 90 days by American Resort Services, Portland, Ore., according ac-cording to Mr. Crandall. The revenue bond method of financing will be provided through a non-profit corporation corpora-tion organized by Utah County with the project ultimately transferred to Utah County upon retirement of the bonds in an estimated 25 years. This bond issue is a pure revenue type bond, with no taxpayer obligation, Mr. Crandall reported. re-ported. If all goes as planned, the physical survey of the ski area and preliminary construction will begin within 60 to 90 days, officers of Four Seasons Corporation Cor-poration indicated. Ski potential Junior Bounous, nationally-known nationally-known ski expert and consultant consult-ant to the Four Seasons Corp., explained the great ski potential poten-tial of the area, using a large photograph to point out the areas of development. Mr. Bounous pointed out that development of the area has a greater vertical drop for ski runs than the other three major ma-jor ski resorts in Utah. Mr. Bounous said he recently returned re-turned from the Mammoth, Calif., ski resort and saw some of the new developments which are now possible. The gondola lift there is capable of carrying carry-ing 1300 passengers per hour. That resort is now extending its ski season to over July 4, he said. The critical elevation for a long snow season is from 7000 to 7500 feet. The lowest elevation eleva-tion of Four Seasons, at Board-man Board-man Springs is 7400 feet, and most of the skiing will be in the 8000 to 10,300 feet elevations, eleva-tions, he indicated. Mr. Bounous declared that a Los Angees corporation is currently cur-rently developing a new ski area near Park City with the aim of making Utah a weekend week-end resort area for California. He said they anticipate that the new 300-passenger airplanes will be in operation by 1970, which will take from 30 to 40 minutes. This will enable skiers from Los Angeles to be on the ski slopes within an hour to an hour and a half, at the major Utah resorts, Mr. Bounous declared. de-clared. With the potential development de-velopment of the Provo Airport as an alternate landing field for Salt Lake City, it is conceivable that the big jets carrying skiers ski-ers will be landing at Provo, within a 10-minute drive of the Four Seasons resort. Mr. Bounous pointed out that the ski industry in America i3 increasing at the rate of 22 per cent per year.
