Show Veterans of Foreign Wars set dates for state conclave here The Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Utah and auxiliary will hold their state convention in Springville this year, the dates being announced announc-ed for June 16, 17 and 18. A big program of events is planned for the occasion with delegates representing the organizations or-ganizations from all parts of the state, local . officers announce. an-nounce. Commander Dan Alle-man Alle-man of the local Art City Post 5787, is acting as general chairman, chair-man, assisted by Mrs. James Mason, auxiliary president, and all members of the post and ing the Veteran's Hospital and the Employment Service, is scheduled to appear during the meet. Miss Marnae Brown of Mapleton, Ma-pleton, who took first place in the local, district and state "Voice of America" contest will be invited to give her winning auxiliary. A Springville man, James Mason, is a candidate for the office of department commander command-er and this will attract considerable consid-erable interest from local post members as well as townspeople townspeo-ple backing him. An employee at the Springville Post Office; James has been active in VFW affairs since its beginning here. Meetings Most of the regular meetings of the 3-day meet will convene at Memorial Hall. A memorial service is planned at Kelly's Grove as a highlight of the convention. Election of department officers by the VFW and the auxiliary will take place and the awards banquet ban-quet will be an interesting part of the 3-day program. A government service panel from Salt Lake City, represent- talk at a lunheon Saturday. District awards will also be made. Members of the local post and auxiliary are being urged to make plans now to welcome the delegation and townspeople are also asked to cooperate and help to make the visitor's stay in this city a pleasant one. A detailed program of events, many of which will be open to the public, stating exact time and place of the various functions, func-tions, will be announced in a later issue of the Springville Herald. Garden Club Plans are announced this week for organization of a Garden Gar-den Club in Springville, the initial in-itial meeting being set next Friday, June 2, at 8 p.m., at the civic center. |
