Frank Davies, Eldon Singleton, Horace Peay and Everett Bennett Ben-nett All the high priests and ; their partners in Kolob Stake ! are invited. Mrs. Evelyn Swarts and her four daughters, Mrs. Maxine Harris, of Orem; Mrs. Joar Cragun of Springville; Rae Swarts and Fern Swarts of Mapleton are competing in the Utah State Women's Bowling i- Tourney in Bountiful this month. It is the first time in ij 27 years that a mother and 5 daughter team has competed in the tournament. f Both Mapleton Relief Soci-( Soci-( eties had a special party last ; - week commemorating the 124th anniversary of the organiza-i organiza-i tion. Mapleton Second Ward I had the regular social science lesson which was given by Hel- en Wiscombe then the following follow-ing program was introduced by President Joyce Whiting: a piano pi-ano solo by Lynn Williams, a dance number by Janine Williams Wil-liams and Margene Prestwich, Alma Whiting played two numbers on the violin accompanied accom-panied by Merilyn Tuttle and Geraldine Davies entertained with several selections on her electric organ. A lovely dinner was served at noon. The tables ta-bles were beautifully decorated with spring flower arrangements. arrange-ments. The Mapleton Ward was entertained en-tertained with a history of music mu-sic boxes given by Pat Whiting Whit-ing of Springville. She brought her personal collection of music mu-sic boxes which come from all parts of the world and also showed pictures of some of the first ones ever to be made. She explained how some have very simple mechanisms and others are very complicated and beautiful. A tribute to the Mapleton Ward Relief Society was given by Lois Bartholomew. She also gave a tribute to the past presidency pres-idency Ella Edmunds, Ina I Bushman and Beth Jensen. J They were each presented with gifts of appreciation by the present presidency. Dinner was served to seventy women and 30 children. Wilma Barker was in charge of the food and serving, ser-ving, Shirley Calder was responsible re-sponsible for the favors which were little grand pianos with music on the front for happy birthday. The top opened up to hold candy and nuts. Anna Dell Wheeler was in charge of I other center pieces for the tables. ta-bles. Myrna Lee Tew made a beautiful birthday cake for the occasion and Geraldine Davies played background music during dur-ing the dinner. Rowena Palmer Palm-er made arrangements for music mu-sic for the program and President Presi-dent Genevieve Whiting, her councilors Myrna Tew and Col- ! leen Bushnell were general chairmen of the party. Aaron Mendenhall was injured in-jured in an accident a .couple of weeks ago. Two vertabrae were broken in his back. He has been staying with his daughter, Mrs. Gwen Mehr in Salt Lake City since the accident. acci-dent. Although he has been recovering re-covering very well from the accident, he was taken to the LDS Hospital several days ago to receive treatment for a chronic illness that has bothering both-ering him for several years. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gren and family of Tooele spent two days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gren this past weekend. Lewis Johnson is recuperat-iing recuperat-iing at home after having major ma-jor surgery at the Utah Valley Val-ley Hospital last week. All of the Johnson family has been home since his illness. Rulon Johnson came from San Diego, Claude Johnson from Salt Lake City, Mr .and Mrs. Walt Selck, Idaho, and Mr. and Mrs. Jess Nebel from Iosepa. Rowena Palmer was hostess to the Camp Union DUP last week. The lesson on "Early Mediums of Exchange" was given by Merle Best, a history of one of Mapleton's early pioneers, pio-neers, Albert Milton Whiting, was read by Bernice Everett and Mrs. Sylvia Palmer entertained enter-tained with a piano solo. Captain Cap-tain Afton Barker conducted matters of business, after which luncheon was served by Mrs. Palmer and assisting hostesses Vivian Everett and Lola Jensen. The Lions Club met at the Mountain Valley Inn last Thursday evening. Arrangements Arrange-ments for the social were made by Mr .and Mrs. Parry Harrison Harri-son and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Canto. Lynn and June Houtz were inducted as new members by Lion chairman of membership member-ship committee, Glen Mackenzie. Macken-zie. Entertainment for the evening eve-ning was provided by Sylvester Allan who showed slides oi some of his river trips in Idaho, Ida-ho, Canada and the Coloradc River. |
