Show BYU meets USU at Logan Sat. Having put a sizeable dent iin the '64 phase of the basketball basket-ball schedule, BYU will edge its way into the fore part of the '65 calendar this week with two games. Both of the Cougars' opponents oppon-ents for this week are formidable, formid-able, since both won berths in the NCAA western regional playoffs last year in Portland. Wednesday night the Cougars Cou-gars hosted Seattle and Saturday Satur-day the Cougars will travel to Logan for another pairing with arch-rival Utah State. According to the team's current cur-rent statistics, the Cougars are averaging an even 96 points per game, one of the highest generated by any of the college col-lege teams in the country. Cougar opponents, meanwhile, have been scoring an average of 81.7 points per game. The Cougars have topped the century mark in five of their last six games. While the team has an impressive im-pressive overall average, the individual output remains modest. mo-dest. Fairchild continued to lead the team in scoring (18.5 average) and rebounding (11 per game). Guard Dick Nemel-ka Nemel-ka is second in scoring with a 14.0 average, followed by Gary Hill (12.8), Bob Quinney (12.3), and Mike Gardner (8.4). As a team the Cougars are 48 effective from the field, and 72 accurate from the free throw line. |
