Show Children playing with water do $4000 damage to home, furniture Four children ranging in ages from three to seven years entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Conover, 157 West Second South, Monday forenoon, with a water hose and did over $4,000 damage to the home and furnishings. Apparently the youngsters entered the front door of the home and while one held the hose, others turned it on and they proceded to soak walls, furniture, drapes, books, carpet, car-pet, the grand piano, a stereo-hifi, stereo-hifi, and most everything else in the living room as well as the down-stairs bedroom. The Conover's daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Cox, who had been visiting visit-ing here from Ogden, arrived back at the home after a short stay in Provo and discovered one child still in the house while the others ran home. It was customary to lock the doors, but the front door had been left unlocked in case the daughter and husband returned re-turned before her parents got back. It is believed the children child-ren had had the hose running in the house for approximately an hour. The Conovers had just finished fin-ished painting their home inside in-side and out. The water drenched the piano, pi-ano, the carpet and the overstuffed over-stuffed as well as numerous other pieces of fine furniture. Several books which cannot be replaced, were ruined. One es-. es-. peciallj' valued, was a church . book translated from English to Tahitian by Mr. Conover a number of years ago, while on his mission, and had a personal person-al appreciation message in the front, written by President David O. McKay. The Conovers had to completely com-pletely empty the front portion of their home and begin the big job of having furniture re-finished re-finished and otherwise redecorating redec-orating and restoring damaged items. |
