Many car dealers in the Cedar area have the new 1983 models in stock and have reported that sales are going very well already this early in the year. Most car dealers agreed that the trend this year seems to be more toward improving the overall driving performance per-formance of the automobiles rather than changing the outer design. An exception to the rule is Ford model trucks and cars w which will be for the most part, totally redesigned this year. According to Jim Blackner, sales manager of Parkway Ford, "it's time that Ford got a new face." He added that the new models that Ford offers will include better gas ratings along, with . refined aerodynamics and overall driving comfort as well. However, many of the new 1983 Ford models will not be available until January or February. He added that the Granada Ford model has been replaced by the Tempo which will also come out in February. Car models like Old-smobile, Old-smobile, Cadillac, GMC, Jeep and Subaru will not see many changes in the car's outer features. However, changes have been made in improving the car's driving ef-' ef-' f iciency. According to Dave Morris, sales manager at Tri-State motors, many 1983 models are now in and available at Tri-State. Tri-State. "Changes in these automobiles have come in the front wheel drive and in fuel efficiency," said Morris. He added that growth in computer technology has had a significant impact upon the automobile industry as well. As far as Oldsmobiles are concerned this year, 30 models will be offered. In the compact area, two new Firenza station wagons are offerd. These models provide customers with 64-cubic feet of cargo volume with the rear seat folded down, and yet are compactly sized for maneuvering and parking. According to Morris, not only the Oldsmobile, but almost all of the new 1983 cars have been selling very well at Tri-State. Tri-State. "We just hope that it keeps up," he added. Tri-State Motors also has available the new 1983 Cadillacs. "Here we've seen a very big change," said Morris and explained there has been a change in the Cadillac transmission and also in the use of space. Seven 1983 models have been introduced. According Ac-cording to Morris the average Environmental Protection Agency rating for the cars is 17 miles per gallon in the city and 24 on the highway. "The EPA ratings on Cadillacs is 100 percent better than it was in 1976," said Morris. He added that for those not quite ready to purchase pur-chase a Cadillac or Oldmobile, that Pontiac offers a T1000 model at the new interest rate of 10 percent. As far as Buicks and Chevrolet models go, there has been some change, but not a great deal. According to Cliff Halsey, Bradshaw Chevrolet and Buick salesman, most of the improvements have come in the actual performance of the car and not in the outer looks. He added that gas milage has improved a little bit over last year's figures. He states that the reason for this is when a full-sized car already gets 30 miles to the Ballon thpre isn't much The 1983 Chevrolet El Camino, a cross between a car and a truck, has become very popular among vehicle buyers. f!3 Hi W tOlftw:tmonMWW(M. .: - r - m : J 11 I Atnit(iwiinf(.
