Show Cedar sophs slip by CarbonDinos 32-30 via, among other plays, a 20-yard pass, to finally score on a five-yard run. The score was tied again. But with little time left in the quarter the Cedar team capitalized on another exotic play and a fifty-yard pass from Heap to David Hart fulminated in a 30-yard run by Hart to give the Cedar team a six-point lead at the end of the quarter. The second quarter belonged to Carbon (at least in the scoring department). After several turnovers (including (in-cluding a fumble by the Cedar team) the Carbon Dinos put through some exotic plays of their own and scored two touchdowns touch-downs and two extra point conversions worth two points each. The Cedar team threatened just before the half when Hart intercepted a pass and then Heap completed a 50-yard pass and a 30-yard 30-yard pass to Hart to bring them to the ten-yard line. But the half ended with the Dino's ahead 30-20. The third quarter became a defensive battle and both teams settled down. The Cedar offensive line was able to hold, and they pushed through for Clair Jolley to score a touchdown on a six-yard-run, and Carbon's Car-bon's lead was diminished to four points. Cedar controlled the ball during the fourth quarter with Carbon only getting one first down. Cedar picked up the winning touchdown when the team pushed within a few feet of the goal line and Heap went in on a quarterback dive. Carbon's scoring threat was stopped when Heap intercepted a pass CEDAR CITY The Cedar High sophomore football team finished off its season in good style with a 32-30 victory over the Carbon junior varsity team last week. The first quarter was wild and full of action as the Cedar team recovered a fumble on Carbon's 35-yard line. A 10-yard pass from quarterback Jeff Heap to Greg Watson put the ball in scoring position, and then Heap took it in to score the first touchdown. A fake kick by Kurt Lambeth turned into a pass to Watson for the two-point conversion. The Carbon team then blocked the punt, took good field position, and scored on a four-yard pass. Their two-point conversion was also successful to tie up the score but not for long. Cedar's Mike Goulding immediately ran 70 yards on the kickoff return for another touchdown. Not to be outdone, the Carbon team took the ball on their own 30 and worked it down the field |
