Show 6A Magical Season9 1982-83 entertainment slated CEDAR CITY - The Cedar City Music Arts Committee has put together what it calls "A Magical Season" of entertainment for the coming year. According to committee com-mittee president Kathy Jarvis, the theme for the 1982-83 season is "A Magical Season," and with seven concerts scheduled, "it's the largest so far." To help the season get started on the right foot, Mayor Robert Linford will be signing a proclamation d declaring Aug. 23-31 as Music Arts Week for Cedar City at tonight's city council meeting. Jarvis explained that in past years, the committee com-mittee has brought the ballet and the Utah Symphony here to perform, per-form, but this year a variety of different acts are . scheduled to perform per-form in hopes of appealing ap-pealing to a larger local audience. The first group to perform this year is the Chinese Magic Circus of Taiwan, Sept, 28, at 8 p.m. The company is touring Canada and the western United States, and as a magic circus, it offers more than a glimpse into the fascinating orient. It consists of sensational acrobatics and the magic of the East. In addition, there will be acomedy, balancing feats, Kung-Fu with a troupe of sumptuously costumed girls who perform beautiful traditional dances, said Jarvis. The magic circus is billed as a show for the whole family. Other programs for the season are Burch Mann's "American Folk Ballet," Oct. 12; the Utah Symphony, Sym-phony, Nov. 9; Jensen-Woodbury Jensen-Woodbury Duo, classical guitarists, Jan. 13; the Deseret String Quartet, a classical string group, Feb. 10", the Brass Band, a group of brass players referred to as the Marx Brothers of music, Mar. 2; and the Sage Brush Cotillion, traditional blue grass music, date still to be announced. The committee was organized to bring professional artists to perform here and to provide additional entertainment en-tertainment to the community. 'The committee has also recently selected new officers for the season. New officers are Kathy Jarvis, president; Evelyn Peterson, public relations; Lois Ann Whetman, secretary-treasurer; secretary-treasurer; Judy Curtis, ticket sales; and David Nyman, stage manager. A new Board of Directors was also recently selected. Board members are Gerald R. Sherratt, Maude Halverson, Clair Morris, Dale Hatch, Robert Linford, Paul Whetman, Mike Stansfield and Jeff Marchant. Tickets are currently on sale for this season's performances. Iron County School District students will be admitted free to performances when accompanied by a ticket holding parent. Southern Utah State College students are admitted free with student I.D. cards. Additional discounts are being offered by the committee. If tickets are purchased before Aug. 31, a $1 discount will be given. Also, a $1 discount will be given to ticket purchasers that are under 30 years old and over 65 years old. A committee of 45 people are selling tickets, but any of the committee members may be contacted con-tacted lor ticket sales information. |
