CEDAR CITY -Students between the ages of 10 and 18 will demonstrate their ability to do historical research at the Utah History Fair March 11 at Southern Utah State College. The public is invited to attend the regional fair, which will feature displays and presentations created by students in southern and central Utah schools. No admission will be charged. Displays will be housed in the SUSC Student Center, Large Ballroom. The fair will open at 9 a.m. with judging between 10 a.m. and noon and 1 to 3 p.m. "Similar fairs are being held this month in Salt Lake City, Vernal and Logan," said Wayne K. Hinton, associate professor of history at SUSC. "Winners of the regional contests will participate in the State History Fair in April at the University of Utah, with winners of that contest going on to the National History Fair ir Washington, D.C." "We expect to have around 140 projects entered here at SUSC," Hinton, area fair coordinator, said. "Works exhibited here will be winners ol contests held in the participating schools." Projects are entered in any of four categories: historical papers, historical projects, performances and multimedia multi-media presentations. Three age groups arc recognized: elementary, grade 4-5; junior, grades 6-8; and senior, grades 9 12. "The public is invited to attend the fair anytime between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.," Hinton said. Among the prizes offered, he said, will be full-tuition scholarships to SUSC. The National History Fair was first conducted in 1980. Utah schools entered competition on a limited basis for the first |
