Show Beavers down Rams -Pi 14 4 ly . 'si , "V, 1 f" 1 By MIKE CANNON Sports Writer BEAVER Parowan did return from Beaver following Friday's ballgame with the Beaver Beavers, but there seems to be some sort of mysterious hex that plagues the Rams of Parowan whenever they enter the dreaded "Beaver Triangle," and Friday was no exception as the Beavers dominated Parowan fofa:79-61 win. ' "We finally, put it all together after the Christmas break," exclaimed an exuberant coach Calvin Albrecht of the Beavers. "This is one we really wanted. It was a good ball game for us. We ran the ball real well and played super defense. Our defense, I think, was the key." On the other side of the coin, Parowan coach Mark Heppler wasn't overly thrilled with the performance of his team, but he did give Beaver a lot of credit for their fine play. "We turned the ball over probably six of the first seven times we touched it," sighed Heppler. "The kids were just shell-shocked." Heppler felt the disasterous Ram start put them in a position that was hard to correct, and PHS trailed 21-5 at the end of one period. Heppler did give credit to the Beavers. "They shot really well," said Heppler. "They played very well and their crowd got going. Stoker played very well.", Kenny Stoker did have a good game for the Beavers as he scored 15 points and dominated things underneath. "I felt we held our own on the boards," Albrecht emphasized. Stoker was a big factor in slowing down Parowan's tough inside game, particularly in the first half. Stave Hutchings also scored 15 for the Beavers. Robbie Eyre led the Beaver scoring effort with 16, and Chris Branyall added 12 coming off the bench.' Doug Rogerson led the Parowan scoring attack with 23, but only 3 of those came in the first half. Kelly Orton added 13 for the Rams. Rogerson got into foul trouble early and had to sit out much of the first half, opening things up inside for Stoker and the other Beaver big men. Beaver maintained a comfortable 40-23 40-23 halftime lead and pulled away to lead 63-39 at the end of the third stanza. Parowan turned the ball over 16 times, and Beaver was quick to take advantage of PHS miscues. "We got several cripples," stated Albrecht. Beaver waltzed in for several easy buckets following steals in the early going, and Parowan was never able to get back on track. Beaver is now 5-3 in Region 12 play, tied for the league lead with Kanab and Gunnison. Parowan, with the loss, dropped to 3-4 in Region Eight. The Beavers will be at Gunnison tomorrownight for a big region battle, and the Rams host Enterprise. Beaver's Chris Branvall drives around his Parowan defender during Friday's Beaver versus Parowan battle. The Beavers dropped the Rams 79-61 in the Region 12 contest. Both teams will face tough region games tomorrow night. |
