The State Search and Rescue Convention I irst aid training and competition was in Cedar City Friday and Saturday. IC squad does well in search and rescue Members of search and rescue teams from throughout Utah met in Cedar City last weekend for the annual Utah State Search and Rescue convention, and the Iron County men walked off with their share of the honors. The convention was hosted by the Iron County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team. It included shooting and first aid competitions, a road rally, a parade of vehicles and election of new officers. There was also a barbeque and outdoor dance conducted for the guests. On Friday, a pistol shoot was conducted for convention guests and a BB and .22 caliber shoot involved the kids. A picnic at the City Park Friday was followed by first aid competition. Young people were made-up by experts from Southern Utah State College to resemble victims of various accidents. An exciting road rally Saturday provided a challenge to four-wheel-drive operators. Business meetings and an awards ceremony topped-off the day. The Iron County squad walked off with four trophies in the pistol shoot and four more in the four-wheel drive competition, as well as a fourth place in the first aid events. In addition, Russ Miller of the the Iron County Search and Rescue was elected treasurer of the state group, and Dennis Newcomb was named district 9 director, encompassing en-compassing Beaver, Washington and Iron counties. Miller noted that Cedar City and Iron County residents had cooperated very well with the convention-goers. In fact, businesses helped financially support the convention by purchasing ads in the convention booklet and donating door prizes for the contests. |
