Show Inter-Tribal princess crowned n-mmm 'IM' iT1'''' Eleanora Smith, Shonto, Ariz., was crowned Miss Inter-Tribal Inter-Tribal Princess Oct. 29 at Southern Utah State College. The princess and her court were selected at the fifth annual Inter-Tribal Inter-Tribal Princess Pageant. The freshman nursing major sang, in Navajo, the Navajo Flag Song and performed a gymnastics routine at the pageant. Contestants, were judged on the basis of both traditional and modern talent and on writtern and oral essay questions. Ms. Smith is the daughter of Calvin and Nora R. Smith, Shonto. She is a 1980 graduate of Camel Back High School, Phoenix, Arizona. Theresa M. Nez, daughter of Bill and Mary Nez, Mexican Springs, New Mexico, was named first attendant at the pagenat. She is a freshman fresh-man history major, a 1980 freshman accounting major. Other members of the court . are Rita Chissie, daughter of David and Lillie A. Chissie, Tuba City, and Iva Jean Polelonema, daughter of Lawrence and Idella Polelonema, Moenkopi, Ariz.P The annual pagenat was sponsored by the 71-member 71-member SUSC Inter-Tribal Inter-Tribal Club and the SUSC Multicultural Center. The new princess was crowned by Cheryl Ann Yazzie, Page, Ariz., last year's Inter-Tribal Princess. Ms. Smith and her court will ride in the SUSC homecoming parade Nov. 8, will represent the Inter-Tribal Inter-Tribal Club and college at sevearl Indian meetings and pow wows and will present various cultural demonstrations in the public school system. She is a senior family-life major, a 1977 graduate of San Juan High School, Blanding. In the same contest, Bernice Martin, daughter of Williams and Susan Martin, Page, Ariz., was named Miss Congeniality. She is a |
