Show Lady T-birds in Ogden Meet It will be more of a let's-see-what-we-have meet than a let's-go-for-the-team-title meet for the women's track team from Southern Utah State College Saturday in Ogden. The SUSC women will be competing with a number of other intermountain area colleges at an invitational hosted by Weber State1 College. "What we really want to accomplish," according to Coach Ben Davidson, "is to find out how we compare with the competition and to gain some actual meet experience." "Many of our girls also compete in other sports and haven't had time y;:et to work as hard as they would like in track. We don't expect ex-pect to be nearly as strong in this meet as we intend to be later in the year," Davidson explains. A pair of veteans are expected to lead the point winners for the 'Birds. Mary Damiani, a junior from Chicago Heights, Illinois, will be strong in the 800 meters and will help in the mile relay. Chris Whetton, sophomore from North Salt Lake, shows promise in the 100, the 100 meter intermediate in-termediate hurdles, and long jump. Davidson also figures that he can pick up some points from Theresa Versluis, a junior transfer from College of Eastern Utah; Mary Bryant, freshman from Hunter (Reams High); and Jane Begay, sophomore from Winslow, Ariz. Versluis will throw the shot, discus, and javelin, and run in either the 400-meter or the mile relay, depending on performances by other runners. Bryant will also throw the shot and discus (and maybe the javelin). Begay is being counted on to compete in the 1500 and 3,000 meter events. |
