Show Igougits !8G to Pi two points from the foul line with 12 seconds remaining in the contest to tie it, 64-64. The Beavers trailed by 10 with just over a minute, and by 8 with 58 seconds. Myers, Morgan and Eyre made a valiant bid to erase the deficit and tie it for an overtime period. Myers was fouled with 1 second left on the clock during regulation play. After 5 minutes of discussion dis-cussion at the scorers table Myers finally stepped to the line for a chance to ice it for Beaver, but the front end of the one and one hit the back of the iron and it was overtime. Actually Myers should have been given another an-other attempt because of a lane violation with the T-Birds T-Birds not filling the bottom sections of the foul line, but the foul shot was taken by Myers without the officials offi-cials attention to the violation, viola-tion, and it was too late when play resumed for the final second. If that violation had been acknowledged, one would have thought the Americans and Russians were playing, even though it would have been ah appropriate call that should have been called. Not many fans know that rule and it would have been chaos, especially if Myers had canned can-ned it. Ironically, Myers was given another attempt at a one and one in the overtime period when Piute only had 4 men on the court when he shot his firt shot. Of course anything can happen when the action is as fast and intense as Beaver and Piute exhibited Beaver had an opportunity to put the T -Birds away at the end of the third period when Eyre and Myers missed miss-ed easy layups. Piute had Beaver put away with 58 seconds left, but Myers, Morgan and Eyre said 'No way' and suddenly the scores were deadlocked. Certainly the fans don't need to watch TV for the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. The Region 12 Round Robin has it all, and the action should be great this weekend because six of the thirteen teams won't have a trip to Provo when March 18 arrives. The Beavers take on Escalante Es-calante at 11:45 a.m. Friday, after the Milford-Parowan game, which kicks off the second weekend of Round Robin play at 10:00 a.m. BY MEL OS BORN When a team waits until the last game of the tournament to play its first game, tension ten-sion is inevitably going to thicken. It's tough enough to play the first day, and waiting wait-ing until the second creates an even more emotional high. Beaver went to war with Piute in the last game of Saturday's opening weekend of the Region 12 Round Robin, losing the battle 74-68 in overtime. The contest exhibited ex-hibited practically everything every-thing a tight game could bring out. However, the Beavers lost most of the battles bat-tles of the night, especially from the foul line. The T -Birds had 49 chances from the charity stripe, making 16 of 19 in the fourth quarter. BigShane Millet at 6'7" was 13 of 16 from the foul line while his counterpart, 6'3" Kennedy Sylvester hit 6 of 7 and Greg Bagley hit 11 of 19. Beaver's ace center Jess Cox was tabbed with 3 fouls In the first three minutes of play, which virtually des -troyed the normal Beaver offensive attack. That left the duties for the other five to fill in for his normal 20 points. Cox later fouled out, picking up only three points. Brian Morgan picked up 13 points on great second effort ef-fort and hustle and Burt Myers canned 15 from the other guard spot. David Eyre probably had his best game of the season, sinking 20 big ones, including the |
