Show Happy Birthday, Mr. Baker Chocolate lovers have a delicious occasion to enjoy an Old Fashioned Chocolate Icebox Cake. It's time to celebrate the 200th anniversary of a famous name in chocolate. Back in 1780, the Walter Baker plant began making a blend of quality chocolate. In time, the famous La Belle Chocolatiere, or "Beautiful Chocolate Girl," appeared on packages of bar chocolate to make it more distinctive. The romantic trademark is a gallery portrait of a beautiful Viennese waitress who served hot chocolate to a prince and, in storybook fashion, married him. A silhouette of the chocolate girl appears on sweet cooking cook-ing chocolate, major ingredient in the rich filling for this "celebration" cake. Whether for a personal birthday or commemorating two hundred years of the famous chocolate name, the easy-to-prepare dessert promises to delight the palate. OLD FASHIONED CHOCOLATE ICEBOX CAKE German's sweet chocolate s sugar ip whipped topping 12 ladyfingers, split 1 package (4 oz.) Baker's I 1-12 tablespoons water 1 egg yolk 1 tablespoon confectioner 1 cup prepared Dream Wh 1 egg white, stiffly beaten Line 8x4-inch loaf pan with waxed paper. Place 6 ladyfingers on bottom of pan; set aside 6 for the top. Cut remaining ladyfingers in half and place, cut side up, around sides of pan. Melt chocolate in saucepan over very low heat; blend in water. Remove from heat and add egg yolk, beating vigorously until smooth. Blend in sugar; cool. Fold in prepared whipped topping and beaten egg white. Pour into pan and top with reserved ladyfingers. Chill overnight. Unmold and remove paper. Garnish with additional prepared whipped topping, if desired. Makes 4 to 6 servings. |
