MANAGER: "Now remember, re-member, get right into the issues, and don't let Reagan Rea-gan stick to the script. Maybe May-be you can get him befuddled and he'll put his foot in. . .' Just elve An- (Contlnued on Page 2) Once again, presidential TV debates are thebignews. Will they, or won't they? Does it really make a difference? dif-ference? Since the advent of TV in the 1950's presidential elections have turned into beauty contests. Presi-. dential debates have become the big thing, since 1960, when Kennedy and Nixon went in front of the camera. Most astute observers will admit that Kennedy's makeup man won that one. Candidates and campaign managers have mixed emotions emo-tions about the value of debates. de-bates. On the one hand, the debates do provide national na-tional exposure and since . someone else picks up the tab campaign funds can be utilized elsewhere. But there are a lot of drawbacks, draw-backs, that while they have little to do with a man's backs that have little to do with a man's qualifications qualifica-tions for the job.
