Do not allow victims to rub their eyes. Skin: Wash poisons off the skin with large . amounts of plain water. Then wash the skin with soap if it is possible. Remove all contaminated clothing. Mouth: Look inio victim's mouth and remove all tablets, powder, plants, or any other material that you find. Also examine for cuts, burns, or any unusual coloring. Wipe out-mouth with a cloth and wash with plain water if necessary. Remove victim from contact with poisonous fumes or gases. Get the victim into fresh air. Loosen all tight-fitting clothing. If the victim is not breathing, you should start artificial respiration immediately. Do not stop until the victim is either breathing well or help arrives. Send someone else to call for help. If a caustic poison has been swallowed, you should dilute it by giving 1 or 2 glassfuls of milk (or water). CALL FOR INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT TO DO NEXT: Call your doctor, or if he's not available Call the POISON CONTROL CENTER Call (801) 581-2151. Have the package or poison in your hand and identify exactly (as best you can) what the victim took and how much he took. Keep calm, there's almost always time enough to act. Call for information even if you are not sure. Don't hesitate. HOW TO INDUCE VOMITING: Have syrup of IPECAC available to induce vomiting. Purchase one ounce of syrup of ipecac from your pharmacist. You may do this without a prescription. It will "keep stored at room temperature for several years. If you are instructed to use ipecac: Give one tablespoon of ipecac syrup followed by a glass (8 oz.) of liquid (water, juices, etc.). If the patient hasn't vomited within 15 to 20 minutes, give another tablespoon table-spoon of ipecac and another glass of water. Don't waste time trying other ways to make the victim vomit. Tickling the back of the throat with your fingers, a spoon, or some other object is not very effective. Do not use salt water. It is potentially dangerous. Never cause someone to vomit if: They are unconscious. They are having convulsions (fits). They have swallowed strong corrosives. They have swallowed petroleum products, cleaning fluids, gasoline, lighter fluid, etc. Do not induce vomiting unless you are instructed to do so. IF YOU GO TO THE HOSPITAL Take or send the poison container, poisonous plant, etc., with him. Take any vomitus you collect. Don't give substances like coffee, alcohol, stimulants, or drugs to the victim unless specifically told to do so by the physician. REMEMBER!
