Show LjoIugo 30 EnafeEi for Tiger barrage Billed as a game of the week, local fans got their money's worth as Milford came out with a super de- ' fense and passing game that gave them a taste of what they've been looking for all year. Of course Coach Hillock won't get any credit because the team always wins the games, coaches only lose -games. Hillock started Kim Wil- liams, Mark Whitney, Gary Mayer, Brad Kirk and Ken Jones, and that defenseheld the normally potent Wolves to just nine points in the first quarter. Add a fabulous passing game and tremendous rebounding re-bounding from Whitney, 14, and Jones, 15, and the Tigers Ti-gers were in command 20-9 at the quarter. Minor al-tratioris al-tratioris kept up the pressure pres-sure to a 34-18 halftime lead and 44-26 at the three-quarter three-quarter mark, even though the Tigers came out cold after the intermission and did not score for 4 minutes 36 seconds while the Wolves closed to gap to 34-24. Coach Hillock cleared his bench in the final period and had eight players in scoring columnsl The emphasis was on the passing game and defense, de-fense, and this cut the fire power of his all-state guards, Kirk andMayer, who split the nets for only six points each. But that is there when needed. Jones and Whitney hit the boards with regularity as stated and led the scoringat-tack. scoringat-tack. Jones had 21 for game high and Whitney 12. Williams Wil-liams canned 7, Myers 4, Puffer an J. Hardy two each. Kirk had five assists and Mayer 4. Mayer also picked off six rebounds, against the taller North Sevier squad. Little Troy Hallows had 1 0 for the Wolves, Todd Kennedy Ken-nedy 7, Randy Burr 6, Kir-by Kir-by Nelson 6 and Gary Harrison Har-rison 4. Burr had 11 rebounds. re-bounds. Stastically it was Tiger heaven. They hit 34-23 percent from the floor, 62-58 62-58 percent from the line, 50-38 50-38 boards. They had 14-10 14-10 turnovers, most in that troublesome third quarter. Milford is at Gunnison Saturday. Sat-urday. The Bulldogs may be feeling their oats after knocking off league leading Kanab and Beaver last week. Danny Hill's squad will be up for this one, and few Tiger Ti-ger fans will forget how the Bulldogs chewed up the state championship Tigers at Gunnison Gun-nison last year. |
