Show Just Between You And Me We understand that metrics met-rics will be introduced into the school system in Beaver County this year. ' It may be inevitable and we know the legislators proposed pro-posed a 10 -year phase -in period of which only about three are left. Still, it seems we gave up the old system of measurements without a fight. -0- We know that it's supposed sup-posed to be a boon for industry, in-dustry, and makeAmerican-made makeAmerican-made products competitive in the export market. It's supposed to eliminate the necessity for double tooling, etc. However, a poll of National Nation-al Federation of Independent Independ-ent Business members indicates indi-cates that 75 percent of the respondents oppose the change-over. Six percent are undecided and only nineteen percent favor the change. -0- Who's kidding whom! If this. poll is correct, and who stands to - gain more than business? Less than 20 percent per-cent of the population are dictating a monstrous change for the rest of us. -0- While we don't claim to be too knowledgeable on the subject, we don't remember Brezhnev crying about the lack of metrics when he shipped home 17 Cadillacs and 102 color TV's on his last visit. We've noticed the oil rich sheiks don't complain when their dancing girls are 36-24-36 instead of 91.44 x 60.96 x 91.44. And as they spend their oil millions in the U. S., they don't seem to care if they buy acres or hectares. -0- But beyond being funny, think of the confusion as we begin to correct property descriptions from U. S. to metric. The expense to Beaver Bea-ver County alone would be astronomical. But those behind the change know they must start with the kids, hence the edict to begin in the schools this year. It's not the choice of the local school board it's forced on them by those who control the purse strings. And in just a few short years us oldtimers-will be gone and the kids won't even know they've been hoodwinked. -0- It's impossible to count the number of people who (Continued on Page 2 HERE'S MORE ABOUT T Just Betnain have recommended JUl".
