Show Just Between You And Me Ye ol' Ed blew it again." This time we got our dates screwed up and showed up a day late or would have to shoot a picture of the Class of '42. It's the way we've been most of our lives a day late and a dollar short. -0- Some guy showed up on time a few years ago in Hollywood Hol-lywood and shot a picture of the "Class of '42" and made millions of dollars showing it in theatres around the country. Just our luck! -0- Actually, we're really sorry sor-ry we didn't get this picture of the MHS graduating class of '42 who held their 35th year reunion this weekend. Not only is 35 years quite a m ilestone, but we like to cover all reunions, whether one year or 50 years. But logistics is a problem and it's necessary to contact con-tact us early and make arrangements ar-rangements for a photographer photo-grapher to be on hand. We have cameras located in Milford, Mil-ford, Minersville and Beaver, Bea-ver, and it's likely someone can cover your affair if plans are made early enough. Be sure someone in your reunion re-union group is taking notes and making a list of all the attendees, to submit a story for publication. -0- Actually, the foul-up this week was just a mix-up in dates. We calculated we could shoot the picture ourselves our-selves on Saturday, and agreed to do just that: somehow some-how not getting the word that the picture session was to be at the banquet on Friday. Since we were already committed to be out of town on Friday, we would never have agreed to that date, but would have tried to make arrangements ar-rangements with another member of the COUNTY NEWS staff to take the picture. pic-ture. We can only apologize and promise to try to do better on the Class of '42 's fourtieth year reunion in five years . And, oh! The rest of you who are planning a reunion between now and then make sure we've got the right date. Make arrangements far in advance, and be sure to confirm con-firm at reunion time. You may contact your local correspondent cor-respondent to make arrangements. arrange-ments. And since we may not knowAuntMaude or Uncle Harry, be sure someone has all the facts and participants down on paper so we can write a story. -0- We 've had quite a number of people who've stopped us on the street or in a store to say, "I've got a candidate for 'Beautiful Person of the Week'. But not a single one has put their candidate down on paper and submitted it to the COUNTY NEWS, as is necessary to be considered. Besides their name, we need a short personal history of the candidate, and just what they've done, or been, that makes them a beautiful person. -0- We're very fortunate here at the COUNTY NEWS, because be-cause all of our employees are "Beautiful People". They have to be, because (Continued on Page 2) HERE'S MORE ABOUT Just Bitnicn we don't pay very much. All of them are Involved in their community's affairs. They care about people and particularly the people in their community. They are the kind of people that gen- e rally are already on the spot, lending a hand, when the cry goes out for help. They give a little more than average, they give a little oftener our candidates for the "Beautiful People" this week are the employees of the COUNTY NEWS. -0- Rem ember, if you wish to remain anonymous, the COUNTY NEWS will respect your wishes. -0- Another Monday holiday! Instead of givingtheCOUNTY NEWS a long weekend, it means we have to work both Sunday and Monday. Of course, Monday was work we liked shooting parade pictures at Minersville and sampling the Minersville Ward barbeque. Of course, that part of the day didnt last near long enough. -0- We like to spend the Fourth in Minersville. The kids can get a taste of the Fourth the way it used to be without a cop eyeballingthem every -time they shoot off a cap or light a snake or bottle rocket. -0- Unfortunately, Beaver C ounty youth cannot cap off the day by watching a fireworks fire-works display, unless they travel to Cedar City. A really good display costs over $1,000 now, and none of the municipalities can afford af-ford it by themselves. Wead-vocate Wead-vocate apoolingof resources in the county for a Fourth of July fireworks display in a central location. We believe Minersville Reservoir should fill the bill as a central location, and should satisfy all elements in the county. The fireworks could be shot off from the BLM side of the lake or from the dam, with the public viewing the spectacle from the state park side of the lake. By shooting the -fireworks out over the lake, any duds there are a few would fall in the water, which would render them harmless, thereby avoiding any possibility of an accident such as happened in Milford a few years ago. -0- Financing could possibly come from the transient room advertising fund, which is intended to be used to enhance en-hance our tourist industry and promote Beaver County, which most certainly a spectacular spec-tacular fireworks display would do. -0- We recall the fantastic displays at Forest Lake, M inn. and Rice Lake, Wise. These small communities were the place to be on July 4th. The lakeside was loaded with people and even those who could not gain entrance for the weekend, planned their trip so they would be in the vicinity for the fireworks fire-works display. We recall, also, the fabulous fabu-lous displays at Lake Washington Wash-ington in Seattle. The reflections re-flections in the water enhanced en-hanced the displays of all three tremendously. -flit could be said that the tourist season in Beaver C ounty is at its peak on July 4th. There is no need to try to attract more tourists tour-ists at that time. We'd argue; "What better |
