Show Next Tuesday the legis- ' lators will meet inSaltTown for an emergency session. The Governor called them back mainly because they didn't pass his gas tax in the regular session. Fact is, they didn't do much of anything in the regular regu-lar session. It was the most unproductive session since we've been in Utah. -0- Now that's not all bad! When they weren't doing anything any-thing at least they weren't doing anything wrong. There was no real public outcry over a single bill this year. Of course, it's kind of hard to get excited, pro or con, about a resolution to eulogize eulo-gize a former member of one house, to compensate his widowThat's about all the regular session amounted amount-ed to! -0- Thls special session is limited to the specifics for which the Governor called them back. Now that sounds pretty simple, and as soon a s they figure a way to add two cents to a gallon of gas without catching the wrath of their constituents when they get home, it should be over. However, Matheson, wanting want-ing to make the session worthwhile, added a couple of things, like, "study the drought situation." Boy, what a can of worms he opened there. We've already got every state and federal agency studying the drought. And it opens so many doors. Just try to name one industry, either in the public or private pri-vate sector, that isn't affected af-fected by the drought. Boy, Guv! You'll be lucky to kick those bums out by Christmas. -0- Every now and then we get a chance to slap the backs of some of the beautiful people. peo-ple. There's nothing we like better. This week we'd like to m ake note of Bill and Frieda Wood's Golden Wedding Anniversary. An-niversary. But it's not this m ilestone we want to honor. It's what we call the "beau tiful people" things that m ake the years before this m ilestone so great. Bill and Frieda truly fit our mold of beautiful people. -0- Beautiful people are not the glamorous movie and TV celebrities, commonly associated with beauty. They are not the jet -set whose money makes them seem beautiful. And no, beautiful -people are not the superstars super-stars of the athletic world who command salaries in s ix and seven figures. -0- "Beautiful People" may come from any station in life. They may come from the wrong side of the tracks, or Fifth Avenue. They may have nothing of material value or be millionaires. Most are just average John or Jane Does, who accept their place in society and do their bit to make it a better world. -0- "Beautiful People" are the ones who show up for a work party. They attend or take part in civic functions, not for glory, but to do their part. -0- It's not necessary to ask "beautiful people" for a hand they are Johnny -on-the-spot to offer, not just one, but both hands. They don't want credit, pay, or future favors. They just want the opportunity to do their part. -0- "Beautiful People" run for public office, they chair committees, they take charge and accept offices in civic, service, religious and fraternal fra-ternal organizations. But they also attend meetings, support the officers, do the chores, and make it possible for those in charge to accomplish ac-complish something. -0- There are not near enough "beautiful people" in the world. There are not enough in Milford or BeaverCounty. But certainly BillandFrieda qualify on every count. We're proud to list them among our friends. |
