First runner-up was Julie Ann Hutchings, daughter of M r. and Mrs. Sam Hutchings of Beaver, and second runner-up is Carol Rae Al- The judging was close, as only a few points separated the queen from the rest of the contestants in last week's Beaver County Fair's first annual queen pageant. And Queen Kim Brox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rulon Brox of Milford, edged the others for the honor of representing Beaver County brecht, daughter of Bishop and Mrs. Sheldon Albrecht of Milford. All of the contestants were the pick of the crop from throughout Beaver County, and all presented them selves . well. The Impartial judges from -Iron County were Mr. and Mrs. Dave Morris of Tri-State Tri-State Motors, and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Clark, of Clark and Linford Jewelers, also of Cedar City. Other contestants were Kathryn Carter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Carter, Minersville; Louise Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Smith, Milford; ReNea Mortensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Mortensen, Beaver; Christine Barton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bryce Barton, Beaver; and Michelle Fisher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. IraM. Fisher, Fish-er, Milford. The judging was done in five parts; a personal interview, inter-view, poise and personality, talent, formal, and a question, ques-tion, "Do you like Beaver County and if so, why?" Queen Kim and her attendants at-tendants showed their polish and previous exposure in all categories to edge the other candidates. Queen Kim for her talent played on the guitar and sang one of her own compositions. Runners -up Julie and Carol both played play-ed the piano very well. The most interesting and unusual talent spots, though, had to go to RaNae Mortensen, Morten-sen, who showed her many varied talents in a sketch depicting her room. They extended from making and refinishing furniture to quilting quilt-ing and painting. She relaxed among familiar things and really came across to the .audience. Just as unusual and talented talent-ed was the art display by (Continued on Page 4) HERE'S MORE ABOUT Queen of Fair Christine Barton. She explained ex-plained her many paintings and drawings and capped it off by drawing a caricature right before the audience's eyes. Kathryn Carter also played play-ed the piano, Louise Smith sang and Michelle Fisher belted a tune from Oklahoma. It was an evening enjoyed by nearly 150 spectators and one which should make the county proud. Remember, the County Fair is scheduled with a tremendous tre-mendous show August 11-1 2-13, 2-13, 1977 in Minersville. |
