Show DIM How beautiful it waves over the land of the freel Yes, Mayor Young, the C ity crew, and a special last -minute effort by Councilman Clark Dalton, got the new flag pole erected and both the Stars and Stripes and Bicentennial flags were waving wav-ing in a stiff northerly breeze at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 22nd. -0- We personally wish to thank everyone who had a hand in acquiring, construction construc-tion and erection of this fine pole. Everywhere, local citizens cit-izens are urging that the flags continue to wave daily. The only criticism we've heard is that it "should have been done years ago." -0- Spent a couple of days at Lagoon last week. Looked as if the Wilsons wouldn't get any vacation this year, so the kids decided to spend a couple of days at the fun-land, fun-land, while we were having the typesetting equipment tuned up and repaired. -0- Rather than spend the time in a motel room, Dad and Mom took in Pioneer Village. Vil-lage. We understand that m uch of this collection was formerly housed inSalt Lake City and just recently moved to the Lagoon site. Of course, many buildings have been moved in and built, and even so, the village is not complete. A number of the collections collec-tions are really outstanding, and it's all worthwhile. -0- There are those detractors detrac-tors who fault the centralized location, stating (insert your own county or city), buildings build-ings and artifacts should stay in that county or city. In fact, there is even such , jealousy within counties. ' Many refuse to donate or lend historical items to the Beaver County Courthouse Museum, ortoMilford'sHis- j torical Park, etc. -- -0- j Of course, those who have complete or extensive col- r lections of their own and j care for, display and maintain main-tain them, serve the same purpose as do museums, parks and Pioneer Village. However, don't make the m istake of thinking that your children or grandchildren will hold the same rever- j ence for something old as i you yourself do. . -0- J The chances are thatun- ! less you encourage and develop de-velop an interest in these artifacts, your heirs will haul them to the dump. Much better they be placed in the hands of some group or or- I ganization who will care for i them. If you don't wish to m ake an outright donation and the article has more significance signifi-cance than pure sentimental j value then some group i will be happy to take them and care for them until you or your heirs want them back. -0- No matter, if the kids want to spend a day at Lagoon even if you took them last year go along and spend the day at Pioneer Village. You won't regret it. Oh, Yeahl If you don't eat or drink, and ; use shoe leather Pioneer Village doesnt cost a dime. -0- And while it won't take quite as long to tour the old Beaver County Courthouse Court-house museum you'll find it just as interesting. It's mostly filled with relics from early settlers of the county. The Daughters of Utah Pioneers Pi-oneers have done an excellent excel-lent job of getting things going. go-ing. They stress that iMs a county museum and not one for Beaver City. They'd like to have ore samples from any of the county's mines, and of course anything else you'd like to donate or consign. You should contactMrs.Alta Hickman or Mrs. Jessie Ward, who are coordinators for the Camp's museum effort. |
