Show Coyoity polls out off Health District A significant step was taken tak-en last Thursday, July 3, to return the county health program pro-gram back to the county where It belongs. The decision and motion was anti-climax since all' three commissioners were pretty well decided before they left the meeting with the Beaver County Medical Society, So-ciety, the night before. Efforts to get them to sever all ties with theFCAG received no consideration from Chm. Harris, though the other commissioners indicate in-dicate they are fed up with the whole mess. The day was mostly taken with money problems. Inflation Infla-tion is kn awing away at the budget, and they're especially especial-ly hard pressed in the road department and if the prognosis prog-nosis doesn't look up, the commissioners maybe forced forc-ed to lay off four road employees em-ployees August 1. Two are temporary employees em-ployees who were put on with make -work funds early this year. The other two started with P.E.P. programs a couple cou-ple of years ago, and were kept on; two from Milford and two from Minersville. Those were the worst problems, but none were more frustrating than trying to come up with make -work programs for some $135,000 through state and federal agencies. The approximately $35,000 was from Highway Aid System Sys-tem Funds. After much discussion, dis-cussion, mostly on South Milford Mil-ford roads and where to get the 10 matching funds, they decided to attempt to put a good gravel road to the geo-thermal geo-thermal area. The present road Is rough and with the increased traffic, repairs are badly needed. Other roads failed to qualify for one reason or another. The $100,000 came after many telephone calls, from S.E.D.A. funds through the Four Corners Agency. The many telephone calls were necessary because everything every-thing had to be relayed through the FCAG. The big problem was finding find-ing out how much money was available. They started with two figures, $193,000 and $19,320. Quite a difference and that's where the telephone tele-phone calls got started. After several calls and some time later, they finally final-ly settled on a figure of $100,000. Supposedly, there is $400,000 for the 5-county area, and the FCAG decided to cut out Iron County which leaves $100,000 for each of the other four counties. Editor's Note: If the FCAG is able to pull off this bureaucratic bu-reaucratic theft, they will soon take over every facet of local government. However, there is no guarantee guar-antee that the money will be received. The commissioners commission-ers only had to come up with projects fitting the criteria and guidelines to make application. ap-plication. Projects proposed were curb, gutter, parking lot, lawns, sprinklers, and mower mow-er for the new courthouse, (Continued on Page 2) HERE'S MORE ABOUT COUNCIL ical park and that estimates on construction materials for the shelter house were being taken. It was decided that since costs were going to be so high, it would have to be let out for bid, causing several weeks delay in the start of the project. Bob Carter told the Council Coun-cil ft at the Lions Race Meet would be August 1st and 2nd and admonished them for failure to do more at the fairgrounds. He reported dirty stalls and starving horses. He requested re-quested a new water line and fire plug to protect the fairgrounds. fair-grounds. He pointed out that the grandstand could easily have been lost to fire last week when a tramp built a fire to get warm. He said the patrolman on duty did not even have a key to the gate, and had he not been there, the fire truck could not have gotten in. He accused the patrol of being lax in enforcing rules at the stalls. Carter requested that the stalls be cleared and cleaned clean-ed on July 25th to prepare for the race. In other business, Council approved Don Willden's application ap-plication for sewer and water wa-ter hook-up in the newL.LD. area; Approved Class C beer licenses for B & J Club and Caspers and Class A license for Jefferson's; Accepted resignation of Norm and Dixie Lamb as festival committee chairmen for the Bicentennial 5 and Okayed free swim, parade, pa-rade, and use of city park for 2nd Ward 24th of July celebration. |
